A's come back to win the next two at home against the Angels, including yesterday's game with the bizarre ending.

A's are alone in first place.

oops the a's are sucking

They've lost four in a row, including a three game sweep at home against the O's. They are now 2.5 games back of the Angels and are just 1 game ahead of the Yankees in the Wild Card.

Basically the offense has died. In the past 4 games they've scored 9 runs. And while they had a legitimate complaint about a poor call at first base last night that lead to three runs scoring in a game they lost 4-3 (i was watching the orioles broadcast, and they really ripped the umpire) the fact remains that they sucked.

They need to get going again -- don't want the Yankees sneaking into the wild card spot.

remember earlier in the year when everyone said beane was a dummy?

beane is a dummy. i hate him because he does things differently. he also writes too many books instead of making kenny williams look stupid.

btw, adam dunn sucks. he strikes out way too much.

Exactly. The Yanks are starting to heat it up.

While I've not allowed my hopes to rise, I have been looking forward to a sans-Yankee postseason. For that, we need the A's to continue hot.

But, just our luck as Cub fans, the one postseason that might lack the Yankees will, however, include both the White Sox and Cardinals and no Cubbies.

Don't worry - the Yanks still have 6 games left against the intimidating Devil Rays (who they are 4-9 against this year) and 3 games against the scary Royals (who they are 0-3 against this year).

the a's reach a new low point tonight by only beating the royals 4-0. for the moment, they are two back of the angels, depending on the outcome of the LA-Boston game.

Remember when it was chic to dump on Moneyballer Jeremy Brown?

Well, in AA this year:

Jeremy Brown 109 372 62 99 25 1 19 68 183 50 82 0 0 .364 .492 .266 11

Pretty much looks like a Billy Beane guy to me. Does anyone know if he is still catching?

oakland beat the angels in the 11th on bobby kielty's bomb last night

anaheim is now 2 games back

8)

that was all good, but harden is now being pushed back and we dont know when he'll pitch next, plus kotsay is out for the series. thank god for jay payton.

BP has an article about how historic this season is so far for the A's. Only two other teams in the history of the Majors has come from 15 games under or more and finished 15 games.

They didn't mention the Astros but they too have a chance of being on that list. At one point they were 15-30. If the Astros go 20-11 in their final games they too will do it.

thank god for jay payton.

that's the first instance of that sentence ever being used in the history of baseball

he's 286/308/547 as an A

the obp and walk rate are pretty awful, but he can actually play center and it's so nice to have someone on the team who hits for power.

i dont know who the heck would be playing cf without him. i guess byrnes, if the trades didnt happen, but cool a's fans always used to refer to LF in the coliseum as "Byrnes' Butcher Shop," so him in center would be pretty awful (some fun byrnes nicknames were "byrnesbum" and "byrnesbrain"). i guess they've always said that swisher COULD play center, but im not thinking thats a good idea either.

thank god for jay payton.

I like the Angels and the A's. I'm so conflicted when it comes to these series. Who should I root for?

Any favor I'd ever shown for the Angels disappeared when they changed to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

i hate mike scioscia nearly as much as tony la russa, and for similar reasons. plus they have the worst announcers in the world. plus garrett anderson has a pornstache.

I'm not that impressed considering that he's 25 and this is not his first try at Double-A. He was a signability pick from the start (don't listen to Lewis), and I don't ever see him becoming an everyday major league catcher.

But Vlad and Chone and KRod and Lackey! And I don't care what anyone else says, I call them Anaheim. I feel the need to root for one of my local teams, and I hate the Dodgers, and the Angels rarely play the Cubs, so I feel I can root for them.

vlad is cool, if not terrifying. lackey is too ugly to be cool. krod needs to lose his glasses. chone needs to learn to spell and is crazily overrated, though not as much as he would be if he were slow and white.
