Carlos Zambrano usually has St. Louis's number, the July 19 matchup in Wrigley last year being a notable exception. But then again, Chris Carpenter has been the best pitcher in baseball over June and July. Cards probably need to make Z throw a lot of pitches and keep it close until they can get into the Cub bullpen.

Ugh heres hoping for a CG. Especially after the last two days. :?

Or Z can go 8 innings and Dempster can finish it off, right?

After yesterday? No thank you.

So he has one bad outing, in a non save situation, and its unforgivable?

NO, don't get me wrong. I just thin that with 29 pitches yesterday ina rough outing, that I would rather have Z give us a CG and let the pen rest. I still have faith in Dempster

Zambrano shut these same Cardinals down back on April 20th. Let's hope that he does the same tonight. Go Cubs!!!

Yeah...I was there...we happened to lose Nomar that day too.

:( :(

Yeah, so was I. Good thing Dusty wont have the option of bringing in LaTroy with the tying run at the plate like he did that night.

Bush was just big enough to hold that ball. As I recall, Corey caught Mabry's long fly right against the wall to end the game. I almost had a heart attack :x

Yup...I about died...Z pitches a great game...I'm at least having some consolation in that fact that we've won, despite losing Nomar...and then Hawkins lets Mabry hit the ball about as far as he was physically able...That right there sealed the deal on Hawkins for me....it didn't go out, but I was done with him....it was too close.

Can someone post scouting reports on Mahoney & Rodriguez?

Dusty sucks. We should trade Murton to the Braves so he can get a chance to play.

It's obvious Dusty isn't comfortable starting Murton against righties (and one wouldn't think that the first time would be against someone of Carpenter's caliber). Let's just hope Holly has a productive game.

Actually, against Carpenter it's not a bad idea to load up with the LH. I think he might be the best in the game against RH batters:

.172/.212/.457

LH batters:

.252/.314/.712

It'll be nice to have Murton/Cedeno off the bench late in the ballgame to face King, Flores, etc.

Macias will get that PH appearance, and there won't be another one against a LH in all likelihood.

I'm so sick of the Burny/Aram clean up spot flip flop. Aram is our hottest hitter right now, he has like 40 home runs in the last 7 days :x

Why is Dusty sitting Adam Dunn?

I swear !! Every time Dusty gives one of the regulars a day off.... somebody on this message board goes ballistic about it !!

I actually don't mind our RH-batting rookies sitting against someone like Carpenter, who is capable of dominating RH hitting. What bugs me is that our rookies sit against ALL righties, even the really crappy ones.

So basically, it's 2 out of 3 or bust here, right?

I'm seeing a lot of similarities to this series and the series in Houston in 2003 where Z hit the HR to keep us from falling 6.5 back.

Eh. The next homestand is going to be more important. The Cubs are going to have to beat up on teams like the Giants and Diamondbacks.

What was that, Hairston?
