I'm not sure if this name has been thrown around in here before, but Randy Winn could be a guy the Cubs could use. He is a good defensive center fielder who can lead off. He seems to be quite available, so could he be an answer to some of the cubs problems?

and also, who would we hafto trade to Mariners to get winn and possibly a pitcher?

edit...

some stats on winn

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG

2005 91 343 39 92 23 1 4 32 129 34 48 9 6 .339 .376 .268

He's always been a streaky hot and cold type of player. I think he could help, but he's not much of an upgrade over Hairston and will make at least $3.75 Million next year. So, I wouldn't give up a decent prospect for him.

I'm not too high on him, I think that Hairston will probably give you similiar production. Winn has a $5 mil team option for next year, and if they decline, Winn gets a $3.75 option. Hairston will cost less, provide as much or more...

With Hairston playing decent CF and hitting lead-off, I'm not seeing a need for Winn. He falls into the same category as Matt Lawton. When Corey was in the line-up everyday, I was a big proponent of trading for Lawton to play left. But now, if we upgrade in left, I'd want someone with a little more power.

As otehrs have said, he's basically Harston with a strogner arm...a natural centerfielder instead of a covnerted infielder.

I don't think that's worth trading for or paying more than a couple million for.

That's not to say he's a bad player, just that we already have someone very similar to him. He'd be redundant.

I would love to have Winn, but not right now. Perhaps in the offseason, since he should end up being a free agent.
