9 already this month? His OBP for June prior to today's game was .419 - off of a .286 average. How about that game against Atlanta when he walked three times?

Does anyone know where this patience came from?

I thought he always has been a guy that would walk.

He usually get around somewhere between 70-90 walks, while between 120-140 strikeouts when he was playing for the Brewers before he went to the Mets and that he had a bad stay at LA.

Right now he has 35 walks, which is projected to at least 70 walks, in my opinion. But he does have 59 strike outs.

I think Burnitz could finish with a .260-.270 with at least 30 HR's and 80-90 RBI's, if he doesn't go on a brutal slump. As for his OBP, I would guess around .330.

Beernuts hasn't been stroking the ball the way you'd like him to for the last 3 weeks..... but with that walk total, he sure isn't hurting the program.

Jeromy's career OBP is nearly a hundred points higher than his career AVG. The guy has always been patient.

Agreed - we just hadn't seen it as much this year. Hopefully he keeps it up.

In the 5th inning of today's game, not sure which announcer on ESPN said, but Burnitz has taken 23 pitches through the 5th inning.

By the 5th inning

3 AB's, 2 hits. Took 23 pitches.

That's very impressive showing of paitence.

Overall Burnitz has been a pleasant surprise - not what I expected from my few recollections before we signed him. I expected a few more home runs from him by this time of the season, but I expected worse fielding, a little worse average and even more strikeouts.

He won't hit 39 HR's and some 120 RBI's that he had for Colorado.

However, He is capable of at least hitting 25-30 HR's and at least 80-90 RBI's.

Right now i'll take the OBP over the power. Maybe he's realized that for the good of the team he needs to either make the pitcher give him a pitch to nail, or take the base.

And it sure seems the guys are recognizing who the gamers are and are taking the lead :D

Heh. I remember a thread where I was backed up against a wall and beaten for defending Burnitz over Corey.

But yeah, that's what I was saying. At least this year he's always had a pretty good eye and pretty good patience. He's not Big Frank, but he's also been very good defensively, cutting off a lot of balls that could have been doubles and that terrific catch yesterday. Looking at the box score you would never get that impression, but when you watch the games it really shows.

59 K's 35 BB's

With the base on balls being 2nd best on the team...

Nobody EVER said that, when you get Jeromy Burnitz, you're aren't getting a guy who is going to strike out 100 times a year. But you're also getting a guy who has gotten his butt on base at a .340 minimum in every year since 99, other than his horrid '02 season and half of '03. This isn't anything new.

Case in point, looks like his best years with the Brewers weren't a fluke, neither the comeback year last year in Colorado. Guy just needed to shoot fish in a barrel once to get his confidence back

Honestly, with the crappy free agent list next year, if I'm Jim Hendry, i go to him and say "can we forget about the option next year which is going to be a little too expensive for the team, and resign you for $5 or $6 mil?" Worth every penny.
