Great article today by Mr. Miles on what it will take for the Cubs to win the Wild Card.

Once again, Bruce has hit the nail on the head with his analysis of what it will take for the Cubs to put themselves back into contention.

How important have Hairston and Walker been at the top of the order?

In the three-game series with the Marlins, Hairston was on base seven times, scoring 4 runs. Walker got on eight times and scored 6 runs.

The Cubs also drew 17 walks in the three games at Florida, and it will be interesting to see if that trend continues.

"sometimes our ballpark has played against us with the wind."

I can only assume that Baker thinks the wind changes directions when the opposition hits?

Jeez, Baker, get a clue.

I think I'd rather have him say that than what could be the real reason --- fans making Wrigley Field the UnFriendly Confines.

I think Dusty has played against the strengths of his club and the ballpark by fielding guys that can't get on base in front of one of the better power lineups in baseball. The Cubs are 2nd in the league in HR, but 13th in OBP. Additionally, they are 5th in the league hitting (by BA and OPS) w/RISP, but 13th in AB w/RISP.

I don't have the ballpark metrics, nor do I know the ratio of wind in:out, but it certainly seems Wrigley has played very small this season.

I was waiting for someone to say that!

The thing that makes you wonder what's going on is that the Cubs since the '84 playoffs are playing under .500 ball at Wrigley during the postseason, too.

In '89, Will Clark was unconscious.

In '98, Atlanta was clearly a better team.

In '03, Bartman, AGon, Baker, Prior and Wood choked.

'03 was Bernie Mac's fault.

The home/away carp just a convenient excuse for Baker. The Cubs offense is better at home then away. The Cubs pitching staff is actually better at Home then away. The problem isn't the stadium the problem is that the Cubs offense in terms of run scoring is average and their pitching in terms of Runs allowed is average. In otherwords this team is playing at the level one would expect an average to be at. In otherwords .500.

Don't forget that Baker stayed on the bench rather than calming everyone down
