Good for him! I was wondering how the replacement for Pie would be named.

That should make him and Herrerra the two MWL players in the game.

PeoriaChiefs.com[/url]"]The Peoria Chiefs have announced that outfielder Luis Montanez has been added to Sunday's Futures Game as an outfielder for the World Team. ...

Montanez was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and was drafted by the Cubs in the 1st round (3rd overall) in the 2000 draft out of Coral Park High School in Miami, Florida. Montanez was a Midwest League All-Star this season, his first full season as an outfielder after converting from shortstop last season. In 80 games, Montanez is batting .310 with 12 homers, 28 doubles and 48 RBI. He is in the top five in the MWL in doubles, homers, hits, extra base hits, and slugging.

Awesome. Thanks for the news.

And since I haven't done so already, welcome to the board!

That's very interesting news. Is it because they have to add a Cubs player to replace Pie, or was he really next in line among everybody?

Luis is really running out of time to show something at the higher levels. I wonder if there is any plan to bump him up in the second half, to see what the 23 year old has to offer.

In looking through the other replacements for players who have either been promoted or injured since being named, it doesn't look like the original player's organization automatically gets to choose a replacement.

They said on the pregame show that Montanez is the first Chiefs player to be named to the Futures game ... there have been ex-Chiefs players, but no active Chiefs.

For Luis's sake, here's hoping he won't be an "active Chief" for much longer...

Very happy for Luis. I hope this will be a boost to his confidence and he can capitalize on this opportunity. He very much deserved the recognition for a fine first half. I'd like to see him advance to the next level.

Isn't he in the outfield nowadays, also?

AA replacement for Murton, maybe?

He's been playing left field consistently.

I was wondering the same thing.

Micah Hoffpaiur (from Iowa) and Matt Creighton (from Daytona) are the ones who will replace Adam Greenberg and Matt Murton. It would be nice to see Luis Montanez try AA; I don't know what more he has to prove at the MWL.
