I for one cannot wait for their collapse.

It's already begun. Ozzie/the team is a fraud.

This smacks of bitterness and jealousy. Yes, they had a bad serious against Oakland (the A's have had their number and are playing excellent ball right now), but they are hardly, imo, about to begin some slide. The team is not a fraud and are headed for the post-season.

It's going to be very hard for them to miss the playoffs, but I think it's worth pointing out that they've had a really easy schedule so far (lots of games against KC, TB and interleague against the weak NL West), and things are going to get a lot tougher for them the next 7 weeks. Their August schedule is absolutely brutal. Minnesota is only 8 back, and Cleveland has a cupcake schedule the rest of the way. If the Sox play a bad series against Cleveland this weekend, there could be problems.

I don't think Cubs fans hate the Sox. Generally, I don't think we care one way or the other. However, I am happy when the Sox lose only because it shuts the Sox fans up. They tend to be quite obnoxious -- although I'm sure they feel the same about us.

Last year, I attended a Sox game and some clown was outside wearing a Marlins jersey with the numeral "03" and "Cubs Choke" in place of the player's name. Why obsess with the other team? The money could have been spent on a pretty cool Nellie Fox or Dick Allen replica jersey -- doesn't make sense to me.

I encourage my son to cheer for both teams, although he likes the Cubs much, much more than the Sox. (That's mah boy!)

I find it amusing the way some people take this so personally, like "Sox fans rooted against the Cubs in '03, so I can't wait for the Sox to mess up". If that's how you feel, more power to you, but I don't really care if Sox fans root for or against the Cubs. Personally, I didn't know very many Sox fans who rooted against the Cubs in '03, although I also don't know very many who (openly, at least) rooted for the Cubs, either.

I think that the White Sox attract a lot of people who are Cub haters. What I mean by that is instead being Sox fans first and then deciding that they hate the Cubs because they are Sox fans, they hate the Cubs and decided to become Sox fans just because they hate the Cubs. Nationally, there are people who hate the Yankees, simply because they are the Yankees, and will root against them no matter what. I think you get the same thing locally here. I think you get people who are so sick of hearing about the Cubs that they want to go against the grain and root against them.

Isn't it interesting that so many rivers of ink have been spilled over the Cubs and their "curse" for not having won the WS since 1908, while nobody talks about how the White Sox are "cursed" for not having won since 1917? Heard some radio nitwit a while back talking about how the Cubs are now alone in being "cursed" after the Red Sox finally won. You'd think people would remember Shoeless Joe, Chick Gandil, and the gang.

Yeah, maybe the reason nobody talks about the curse of the White Sox is because nobody cares. Their fan base is almost exclusively Chicago. Outside of the city it's nonexistent, and in the city they still play second fiddle. They also haven't had as many good players. Name some Cub greats and any baseball fan will rattle off Banks, Williams, Wilson, Jenkins, Santo, Sandberg, Dawson, Sosa, etc, etc...

White Sox great players? Hmm....

Just not a very compelling organization. Where Boston had their very famous protagonist and the Cubs have the loveable loser mantra, the White Sox have nothing really.

As bad as the CUBS have been for the last 60 years, they're still better than the White Sox......

 How can you say a team that is almost 30 games over at the break a fraud? They have won 57 games and lost 29, last time I checked that means something. It's not like they're the Fathers, who are 5 games up in a horrible division. The Sox are in a good division and are something like 26-5 against the ALC.

Sox fans are the ones that ceated this rivalry. I didn't even hate them until they started tauniting us, rubbing it in all the time, worrying about the Cubs 24/7 and bashing us. They're more concerned about the Cubs losing than the Sox winning. I really don't care about them anymore. I don't need a Sox loss to make my day like Sox fans do vice versa.

Someone in here mentioned the Sox fan who was wearing Marlins gear in the playoffs are Wrigley. I was at game 7. I saw the guy. He was swearing at Cubs fans, throwing drinks on people screaming "Cubs s*ck!". And he kept referencing people on their cell phones. Funny, I saw him after the game too outside the stadium. For some reason, his shirt had all these rips in it, and he was bleeding from the mouth. But he was still screaming "Cubs s*ck, and Sammy uses cork".

I went to DePaul, a school that was split down the middle basically with Cubs and Sox fans. I know MANY Sox fans. They all went down to the southside to party the day the Cubs lost. And they all watched the games just as intently as I did. The only Sox fan I know that was pulling for the Cubs was my roommate, and that might have just been for my benefit. He was a smart baseball man though, he isn't just a Cub hater.

And for the record, I could care less what the White Sox do most of the year. There are only 6 meetings between us and them, and that's the only time I really care if they win or lose. If they made it to the World Series against the Cardinals, I would root for them in a heartbeat.

Come to think of it, I'd root for ANY team against the Cards in the world series... Yankees included. My hate for the Redbirds runs deep. Deeper than the shade of eye liner Jim Edmonds wears out in center field.

I think if it was the Cards and Sox, I would pray for a rainout. . . all seven games. Then I'd hope for the New Madrid fault (which runs through St. Louis and can be felt in Chicago) to cause an earthquake that demolishes the Cell and Busch. Then I would pray that Selig calls the Series on account of "Acts of God."

That way I don't have to root for either.

Growing up in Central Illinois, it seemed to be about 50% Cubs fans, 40% Cards fans, and 10% the rest. The 10% included the Sox. Nobody seems to care about the Sox in Bloomington-Normal.

I must say that I like the White Sox. To me they are a Chicago team - so I like them. I do get really annoyed at the divisive Sox fans who come out of the woodworks during interleague play and openly trash the Cubs and their fans. They seem to hate the Cubs as much as they like the Sox if not more. It's the whole inferiority complex thing. I imagine it is similar in New York. I would bet the house that Yankees fans generally don't give a crap about the Mets, yet every Met fan in NYC is more concerned with hating the Yankees, then they are the Braves, Phillies, or Nationals.

That said, the Sox fans and the Chicago Media created this rivalry between the Cubs and Sox. To me, I am glued to the t.v. when the Cubs-Cards are on. The Cubs-Sox on the other hand, that is for the southsiders.

Anyway, this is the first year in about five that I won't be going to Busch for Cubs-Cards. My friend just had to pick Saturday for a wedding date. Idiot.
