Its fairly apparent Patterson is not going to contribute anything this season be starting or from the bench. How about sending him down to Iowa for the rest of the season to work on pitch selection, situational hitting, etc? Many have attributed his downslide to an unwillingness to change his batting approach. I don't believe that is true, I believe he's physically unable to recoginze a quality pitch, something that can be improved upon with practice/steady work.

 

Nevertheless, the rest of my idea: call up Grieve, insert Hairston into CF.

Thanks for clarification, I should have checked his option status, so, nuke my idea, there's no way he'll clear waivers.

I don't think this is an 'option year' however I believe the Cubs still possess options on him to have the ability to send him down. I heard that about a week ago.

I may be wrong about this, but I believe that each player has 3 option years. When a player is first called up (excluding September callups), that counts has his first option year, leaving the next 2 seasons as his option years. Corey was up in 2000 (September I think) and then again in 2001, so I think his option years would've been 2001, 02, and 03. So he would have to clear waivers to go to AAA.
