Tuesday's Daily Dish has a blurb on Pawelek as well as a blurb on former Cub prospect Justin Jones.

Pawelek's strikeout numbers certainly do indicate that he has very good "stuff", but we've crossed this bridge many a time in recent years. Above all...let's hope he remains healthy.

Speaking of health...I'm very happy to hear that Justin Jones seems to be pitching decently again. Of course, I'd rather it be in a Cubs uni....but I wasn't disappointed with the trade when it occurred.

I think having a guy like Murton is better than having another guy like Jones (pitcher with world of potential, but now injury concerns) in our system.

No, I agree with you, Brian.....although I do see how my words could be interpreted as me being angry about the trade at this point in time. I've been able to watch Murton a few times this season, and I'm happy that we have him on board....I'm thinking that he'll rebound from his less than stellar June and regain the Southern League batting title.

On a weird note, Pawelek's ERA is listed in some places as 1.59 and in others as 0.00. Yesterday's game saw him give up 1 ER at first, but the box score has been since changed to him giving up 0 ER and 2 R.

Anyone know which number is accurate?

BTW, Ricky Nolasco was named MiLB.com's Star of the Day for Monday. :)

minorleaguebaseball.com[/url]"]Ricky Nolasco pitched a complete game four-hitter on Monday, leading the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx to an Independence Day 14-1 thumping of Tennessee at Smokies Park.

Nolasco (8-0) became the first Diamond Jaxx pitcher to toss a complete game this season. For his strong effort, he was named the MiLB.com "Star of the Day."

The only run off Nolasco was a leadoff home run by Marland Williams in the fourth inning. Nolasco allowed no walks while striking out six Smokies and lowering his ERA to 2.71.

The 6-foot-2 right-hander -- who is now 3-0 against Tennessee this season -- helped his cause at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored.

When the Jaxx played the Smokies in the "future series" I picked up his Cub jersey that he wore and signed after the game. I got it for the minimum bid!
