The Peoria - Kane County matchup will be

LH Chris Shaver (3-6, 4.32) vs. LH Trent Peterson (0-0, 0.00)

Added to the Cougars roster, left-handed pitcher Trent Peterson and outfielder Luis Perez will be activated for tonight’s 6:00 p.m. game against the Peoria Chiefs, the class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. ... Peterson and Perez make return visits to Kane County from Stockton, both playing the 2004 season with the Cougars. Named Midwest League Player of the Week for the week of July 19 through July 25, the A’s selected Peterson in the 5th round of the 2003 June Draft out of Florida State University, sending him to Vancouver to make his professional debut. Last season with the Cougars, the lefthander produced an 8-5 mark with a 3.42 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 121.0 innings of work. To start the 2005 season, Peterson went 4-6 in 15 starts with the Ports, yielding a 6.02 ERA with 59 strikeouts.

Scoreless game going into the 4th in Kane County.

You can hear the kids yelling SpongeBob SquarePants! consistently in the background.

Nate Baliva was saying that the Cougars estimated that the weather yesterday cost them 2-3,000 walkups. They were expecting 10-11,000 for the game.

ETA to add random game notes:

Chiefs take a 1-0 lead in the 4th.

Montanez doubles with one out

Flowers singles to LCF, Montanez to 3rd

Granato sac-fly

Bernard Ks

Eric Patterson is hitting .364 vs. lefties (20/55) and has walked 3 more times than he has K'd vs LHs. (after typing this, he Ks twice vs the LH)

Harvey is hitting .233 vs lefties; 2 of his 11 HRs were vs LHs.

Montanez's double was his 25th of the season. He's 2nd in the league in doubles behind Deacon Burns with 27(?). The Chiefs single-season record for doubles is 38.

"Montanez is a doubles machine." He doubles again with one out in the 7th for #26.

Montanez doubles again in the 8th for his 3rd consecutive double.

Sam Fuld singles in the first to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. He also has walked twice and reached on an error.

Shaver lives dangerously at times, but pitches five complete scoreless innings. 5IPs, 4 hits, 4BBs, 4Ks, 0Rs. On the road, Shaver has a 3.17 ERA; overall 4.09 ERA.

Aldaberto Mendez in for the bottom of the 6th.

Chiefs score again in the 7th, 2-0

One out

Aaron Smith singles

Simokaitis walks

Fuld walks

Eric Patterson Sac Fly - close play at the plate, throw beats Smith, but he slides beneath the tag, Simokaitis to 3rd

Harvey flies out

Chiefs score in the 8th, 3-0

Montanez doubles

Montanez steals 3B

Ball goes into LF, Montanez scores

Blevins blows the save by allowing a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the 9th. 2 outs, winning run at 2B.

3-3 to the 10th, 4th straight no-decision for Shaver.

Chiefs lose 4-3, but I didn't hear how it happened.

Nice game for Fuld and Montanez.

Hopefully Aunt Florence has her window open

Ask and you shall receive. Sing (16), Murton (8), and Craig (7) all hit long balls tonight in a late 10-2 blowout. Each one also had 2 RBIs

Marmol gave up 4 runs on 9 hits, 5 walks, 2 strikeouts, and 1 HR, but picked up his first win with West Tennessee.

In the FSL, Dope went 1-3 with a 3-run HR (8) and a walk. Richie increased his BA to .312 with a pair of doubles.

Mateo pitched 6 strong innings, yielding just 1 earned on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts. He picked up the win as Daytona won 8-1.

Mateo's quietly having a good season down at Daytona. His stats including today's start:

22 G, 6 GS, 50 IP, 4.14 ERA, 54 H, 29 R, 23 ER, 6 HR, 66/16 K/BB

You'd like to see the hits and HRs down a touch, but other than that those numbers aren't too shabby.

HEY, HEY

DOPE-SLAP

Speaking of Dope, do pitchers fear his power, or does he have a good eye because it seems he's been getting a BB nearly ever game.

His BB numbers are down this season compared to last, actually.
