OK, now that we have human tendencies in common, the book is out. Cards can't hit lefties. Our only shutouts this year are against lefties. I don't know how we combat this problem, other than bat Nunez and replace one of our players that can't hit lefties (and there are a few).

Seriously?

You're correct. If I'm playing the Cardinals, I'm going to try and line up leftys.

I'd like to see a trade for Kevin Mench.

This makes more sense to me than Wells. Of course, who would not want Wells...., but I like Mench too.

When is Edmonds' contract up?

Will Al Hrabosky continue to call the Rockies a "second-division team" after last night's beat down ? He must've made that statement 10 times last night, regardless of the score.

Al Hrabosky is one of the worst color analysts ever. Why a great organization like the Cardinals would continue to have this guy doing games is beyond me. He had the audacity to say that it was a shame that Pujols fell behind Lee, but chose to pretty much not make a comment on Rolen's selection by the fans. I really don't care if Lee or Pujols starts, because they're both deserving, but for a paid analyst to show disappointment (even though Pujols will DH) and not show how ridiculous fans are for voting for Rolen, Garciaparra, Piazza, etc. is irresponsible. This guy's contract was up after last season and they chose to bring him back. Unbelievable.

He's signed through 2006 (almost positive)

I wouldn't mind seeing Sanders back next year, but Larry is definately in his last year, and I view him as nothing more than a playoff bat.

Vernon Wells would be awesome, but there are a lot of outfielders out there, and Walt should get one of them in the next month. I think both of our teams are going to improve before August.

Because they are? If a bad team(KC, TB) wins a game (or 2) from a good team, are they still not a bad team? Does 10-6 and 7-0 not count exactly the same in the standings? If the Cardinals take the next 3 games in convincing fashion will you come back and revise your comments to say that Hrabosky was right?

If you despise the guy so much, why do you listen to him? Masochistic streak?

the point is that it's not very wise to ridicule a team that is humiliating yours.

honestly, gotta explain everything to some of these cardinals fans!

Great Point! The schedule is extremely long and it is bound to happen at least a couple of times a year to a good team (lose to an inferior team) and that is why they play the games. Plus, the bad team still has major league talent on it. In the case of last night, you have to give credit where credit is due, and the young man who pitched last night was impressive. The honest truth is he dominated the Cards lineup and Soup did not pitch well.

As for Al's comments, I find it completely unprofessional and arrogant. First of all, nothing can be gained out of bad mouthing the opponent. And I am not saying this is the case, but it can motivate the other team (lockerroom material) or can lead to an underestimation of a teams true talent. Hopefully Al chooses his words a little more wisely in the future.

I'd like to see a trade for Kevin Mench. We have plenty of pitching to give, and the Rangers are always in need of it.

Walt will get something done, and it will probably surprise all of us.

I've said this in numerous threads. The Rangers aren't trading Mench this year. They will make a deal but not one for one of the core young offensive players of Mench, Blaylock, Tex, Young, or Nix.

I see your point, and you're a lot closer to the Rangers media coverage. The hard part of finding the right player is that the Cardinals want him to be a "young" outfielder. Older outfielders are going to be much easier to come by at the deadline.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if Walt is smoke screening and really going after pitching. Jason Schmidt anyone?

WOW- Schmidt would be an excellent pickup for them-bearing in mind his arm doesn't fall off, but a 1-2 of Mulder/Schmidt would be almost as good as Zambrano/Prior  Maybe so-if Walt could get him I say great job.

Yes. Word out of Texas is that 2006 is still the plan. They don't plan on mortgaging that to make a run this year. They would trade Delucci, Soriano, or Hidalgo if it could help them this year and in the future. If the Rangers trade Mench, they're going to want a good young pitcher that is major league ready. They aren't likely to do it during the season. Rather than trade from the core, they would rather wait and see what could be done in the offseason when they can pursue many more avenues.

Not that this is going to happen, but it would take Marquis and at least 2 other players that are either AAA or already on the big league team.

A starting 5 of:

Carpenter

Schmidt

Mulder

Morris

Suppan

would be pretty sweet on paper. I don't know how healthy Schmidt is, so it could look better than what it would be in reality.

The timing may be questionable but the Rockies ARE a 2nd division team, highest win total is 83, have had a winning record once in the last 7 seasons.

And that still doesn't answer the question of why you listen to a broadcaster that you KNOW is a blatant homer and then have a conniption fit when he says something you don't like or think is ill-timed.

The Cards loose one game 7-0 and we end up with a three page thread?

Doesn't that seem a little desparate?

Or you could read the whole thread and realize that about 5 posts in this thread dealt with the Cardinals loss, and the other 35 deal with Cardinals' trade possibilities.

I think if the Cards get Schmidt, they would be darn good. Do you think there is any chance for the Cubs/Cards to trade for Soriano and put him in the OF. I heard/read somewhere, that the Yankees are thinking about doing that. Don't know what it would take to get him...probably a lot. I believe he is a free agent next year. Would be a perfect Cub...K's alot, but hits homeruns.

A. Soriano

24 doubles

20 homeruns

50 RBI

13walks

65 K's

8SB

.282 AVG.

.313 OBP

.557 SLG %

.870 OPS

Does he still hit leadoff down there?

I'm not a big fan of Soriano because of the Ks. That, and he's going to want big money for the #s that he puts up at 2nd. As an outfielder he has nice stats, but not good return for the money he's going to ask for.

Mench is the guy on that team I like a lot.
