Today the Cubs designated Joe Borowski for Assignment. I believed that they should have done it to Mike Remlinger. Rem SUCKS, he's 39, and he's making $4M. Borowski on the other hand is 34, a little better than Rem, $2.5M salary, and he's a protected player. He has 4.123 years of service, making him FA eligible after the 2007 season, same as Patterson and Big Z. I think Rem should've gone. What do you think?

Remlinger has been pretty bad, but Borowski has been worse, not to mention his velocity was still down and he was leaving the ball up in the zone. I'd like to see Remmy gone soon as well, but JoBo and his 6.55 ERA needed to go at this point.

Borowski and Rotschild said he wasn't getting enough work in. He's been throwing in the pen lately and it's been helping him. He held down the fort coming in for mop-up duty against the Whiney Sox on Friday. Rem is an old geezer who sucks. When Prior returned, the Cubs should have DFA him and not sent down Rich Hill. C'mom, Jim, let the kid play. He held down the fort against the Screwers for 4 1/3 innings.

"Other" or "Jose Macias" should be an option.

Can't the mods or admins add it? And Macias can't go. He's the utilty man and the emergancy catcher.

Pfft.. we'll have Brenly catch when we need an emergency catcher.

Being a lefty, Rem still has some value. Joe has pretty much been terrible since the start of 2004. I really liked the guy and appreciate what he did for this team at a very low price a few years ago. He earned his cash. But he's unlikely to bring much to this team. Even though Rem hasn't lived up to his contract, he hasn't been awful. This year his ERA is pretty high, but it's still lower than Joe's, and he's given up fewer HR in more IP than Joe. I still have moderate hope for Remlinger to either pitch halfway decently for the Cubs, or be part of a trade to a big market team in need of bullpen help (NYY, NYM and BOS need relief).

I'm not 100% positive on who I think, but I'm swaying a lot more to Joe..

The Jeter Grandslam made up my mind. It would have been different if I didn't have a yanks fan ragging on me about that, or even if it had been to someone like the Astros.. but Jeter's first grandslam?

Ouch.

Remlinger's peripherals have been quite good so far this year. near 1 WHIP, near 9 K/9, add in the fact he's a lefty, and that Borowski is worse in all those categories with diminished stuff, and it's a pretty easy decision IMO.
