Blackhawks need Knies or Marner.

Yes. And a trade for another top liner.

Tab Bamford goes through a list of potential deals involving the hawks early picks. There’s a couple different concepts, trade away the pick(s) for older NHL ready players. That can be RFA or other guys teams don’t think they can keep longterm or prospects, including currently unsigned guys. It can also mean using their plethora of picks to move up, like they did last year with the Islanders. That trade read to me as Davidson having too many picks and playing fast and loose with their value.

the islanders winning the lottery has had me thinking of a way to swap with them to allow NYI to take their hometown kid in Hagens. They kind of can’t justify doing that at 1, but if they move back to 3, why the hell not? The only issue is there are other teams that will be much more interested in taking the consensus #1 guy, while the hawks would do it for the rights to the 2nd guy, Misa.

Hawks/Isles trade makes too much sense.

The Isles need a talent like Schaefer and they beat the odds to get him. That trade would be a tough sell to the fanbase.

They would got a lot of blow back from their fanbase for passing on the local talent James Hagen. I did not say a trade would happen, I said it make sense.

There would be blowback from passing on Schaefer. He’s the consensus top prospect. Hagens may not even be the BPA at #3 and might not come off the board until #5.

This is still Long Island we are talking about. There will be continuing discussions, and imo there is no guarantee Islanders stay at 1.

I forgot they don’t even have a sitting GM right now.

The Island is even more provincial than Chicago. People rarely leave Long Island unless it’s to south Florida for a weekend. They are obsessed with all things Long Island. I don’t know a ton of islanders fans, but I do know it would not be a hard sell to trade down from 1 and end up with Hagens.

not only would they get Hagens, but they’d get whatever else they got for trading down. And that organization needs a ton. Not good enough to make the playoffs and very low on prospect lists.

Canucks hired Foote. Flyers take Tocchet

ducks already hired Q and rangers have Sullivan

I feel like the Hawks will be the last team to hire a coach.

speaking of Hagens, I hope they take him if they end up making the 3rd pick

I like Frondell more than Hagens.

Desnoyers, too

Both Frondell and Desnoyers fit the Hawks needs better. I won't be surprised if Hagens doesn't come off the board until Nashville at #5 or Philadelphia at #6.

Duncan Keith is at wrigley and an actual name has been floated for the hawks head coach vacancy. Former Detroit head coach and current Tampa assistant Jeff Blashill has reportedly spoken to the Blackhawks.

Buccigross had a weird tweet about it and Pierre LeBrun quoted it, and said they may make a decision in 7-10 days.

Blashill looks like a bald nerd with glasses and his Red Wings teams were awful, but they were also an awful roster. I like a guy with ties to Jon Cooper, but I don’t think there’d be any reason to be all that excited about this name.

CHGO was trying to put a positive spin on him but Blashill feels very blah.

I agree. Very underwhelming hire.
