I looked at the fielding stats.  Happ didn't rank great in OAA but ranked the highest in LF for UZR and DRS stats.  Swanson was the opposite, he ranked the highest in OAA and Fielding Run Value (statcast stats) but for UZR, UZR/150, and DRS Tovar was better than Swanson.  So it seems the Rawlings people are going by these older stats to make their judgements.

Congrats to Happ.

The Fielding Bible, which is about the best out there for this kind of stuff had Happ as the third best LF in baseball (though intelligent folks like Eno Saris had him at #1). He was tops for the NL.

Swanson and PCA both were both top-3 as well on their voting.

Yeah some people got worked up about Happ relative to *all outfielders*, but there were only 5 qualified LF in the NL and Happ was one of 3 you could reasonably conclude was the best numerically.

Swanson had a little more clear cut case, but Tovar was excellent too.  It thankfully didn't go to Winn, who does not appear to have been worthy of being a finalist.

And while I generally kind of "grain of salt" when a player says he loves Chicago or the Cubs (its their job to say that)...there seems to be a real earnestness that comes from Shota. I really believe the guy just really likes Chicago and being here. Hard not to root for him.
