He's probably the most fun of all these blah relievers, I got vaguely excited about him a few days ago when the Dodgers DFAd him. Not having MiLB kinda sucks though.

Just the thing to get Cubs Con fired up!

Seriously though, not a bad addition. Very good walk numbers, decent K numbers in the minors.

Sadler, 29, pitched to a stellar 2.14 ERA in 46.1 innings between the Rays and Dodgers in 2019. As might be expected, his peripherals hardly supported that level of run prevention. A belwo average 9.1% swinging strike rate and 16% strikeout rate contributed to a 4.38 FIP. To Sadler’s credit, he did limit walks and features elite spin on his fastball and curveball. Perhaps he’ll be able to overcome some likely regression in his BABIP allowed and strand rate if he can better actualize his raw stuff in Chicago. Sadler’s out of options, so he’ll have to stick on the Cubs’ active roster or else again be traded or exposed to waivers.

So he either makes the team or gets put on waivers. Assuming he makes it, the pen is likely: Kimbrel, Ryan, Wick, Wieck, Mills/Chatwood, Tepera, Sadler, the Rule 5 guy?

His FB is 93-95, even though that’s below average that’s still decent. Elite spin guy, he throws his slider a lot (31% last year). With the curve spin numbers wonder if they tinker with that a bit and have him ditch the slider. I’d assume him and the Rule 5 guy make the team out of spring with 1-2 spots left (I think) open to the 15 or so guys competing.

This is the "Why don't they make the entire plane out of the black box!?" offseason, "Why don't they make the entire team out of low risk bullpen arms!?"

Yeah I think this is right, with Winkler probably being the next guy up if any of these guys have a tough spring.

I forgot about Winkler. And Morrow if he's ever healthy. And that's not including Maples, Mekkes, Underwood (who's out of options I believe), Norwood, etc. The pen has pretty solid (if unexciting) depth this year.

Next, he’ll do the mustard on the hot dog with no ketchup.
