Nico Hoerner’s at .327/.421/.490 with a 12% K rate

 

I'm just as impressed with the matching 12.3% BB rate in the early going for him. He didn't walk much at all in college, and I was hoping he wasn't going to be a guy like Almora who can make contact early and never takes walks. 169 wRC+ in the early going for Nico.

Yeah he definitely needs to show some more HR power to be a Guy. They have admittedly said they are working on him getting more launch, it’s not a matter of him hitting the ball harder or anything (he hits the ball hard) it’s getting it in the air a bit more. But the early results so far are damn impressive on the whole. I’d be interested to hear how he’s looking and grading out defensively at SS so far too, I know there’s concerns there that he can be full time there. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get some CF reps sooner than later because I think he’s definitely more a guy who bounces around positions (even if it’s just SS/2B) than he is a full time guy at SS.

So according to Statcast, Javy Baez had a sprint speed of 28.6 ft/s and a home-to-home time of 16.11 seconds in the video above. I think Baez thought he hit a HR if I recall correctly and started out of the batter's box a little bit slow.

 

So Hoerner doing it under 15 seconds is pretty impressive. Dude is fast...
