I see Ovalles Tom and I raise you Morfa

In August, the Cubs signed 17-year-old Dominican outfielder Carlos Morfa for $125,000. Morfa stands out for his combination of strength and athleticism in a 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. His righthanded swing is crude and he needs to improve his plate discipline, but he makes loud contact when he squares it up and at times manages to connect with pitches when he does chase. His outfield actions also look raw, but he runs well for his size and has a solid arm. Morfa trained with El Niche.

7 hits - 3 dbls and 3 HR's

Ha! The stadium gun for South Bend might be a bit off today. Fort Wayne TinCaps starter Mason Thompson has been throwing his FB in the low 90s all game. Then he popped one for 99, then 101 which was surprising but not out of the realm of human capability. The next inning, the scoreboard said he threw one at 117 mph. Yeah, no.

Brendon Little has been the definition of consistently inconsistent to the extreme this year. He has literally had a terrible final stat line followed by a very good one followed by a terrible one all year.

4 ER, O ER, 4 ER, 0 ER, 5 ER, 0 ER, 5 ER, 0 ER, 7 ER and 1 ER in tonight's start.

The good news is when he's on, he's been really good (at least against Low A hitters) and as with most younger prospects consistency often comes with more reps. But, damn, really?

The South Bend game started out odd:

Fort Wayne Top of the 1st

South Bend Cubs pitcher Yapson Gomez ejected by 1B umpire Alex Nash.

Fort Wayne TinCaps pitcher Jordan Guerrero ejected by HP umpire Jake Botek.

Jeisson Rosario grounds out, second baseman Jhonny Bethencourt to first baseman Jared Young.

Esteury Ruiz lines out to left fielder Nelson Velazquez.

Tirso Ornelas strikes out swinging.
