  1. 1. Double play breakup strategy?

    • Slide straight in every time. Never attempt to take out the fielder.

    • If you think you can take out the fielder without breaking the rules, take them out.

Why would you not try to take out the infielder? That's just dumb.

Because it’s not part of the rules anymore and dangerous

Apparently you missed this part of the answer.

without breaking the rules

Yeah, well that’s pretty much impossible with the current rules

I must be missing something because I don't even see that part of the answer as it is

Here is the total answer. It's the second option and the one with almost all the votes.

If you think you can take out the fielder without breaking the rules, take them out.

Ah my fault. Tapatalk doesn't show polls.

I ask because I think I would have them just go straight in every time. And this is from a purely competitive standpoint. Not even talking about injuries. I think over the course of a season you’re likely to give the other team more free outs at first base for accidentally (or in the umpire’s judgement) breaking the rules than you are going to save by breaking up the throw.

Probably shouldn’t have asked the poll the day after the Yankees/Red Sox. Didn’t even realize that had happened when I asked the question.

shoot the second baseman with a laser gun so he turns into a pile of dust without breaking the rules

this is where i stand as well. even if you think you can do something without breaking the rules, you’re probably wrong and the umpires will call everyone out and the other team will get mad at you.

slide hard, directly into base, and don’t overslide the base. if the pivot man is an idiot and happens to be where you slid, great! double play broken up and no one can say anything. if the pivot man does his job and is gets out of the way, you still put the pressure on him to do everything right since he couldn’t just use your dumbass slide as an excuse to get free outs. plus nobody gets hurt!
