Anyone else here going to the 2018 Cubs convention? I will be off work that weekend, so I will be buying my tickets soon.

Also, this will be my first time at the convention. If anyone here has gone in the past, some advice for newbies would be appreciated.

It's been a long time since I've gone, but figure out what panels you want to go to and get there early.

I'm going also for the first time and bringing my 8 year old. How early do I need to be there each day and what is good for kids? Not staying downtown, but planning to trek into the city each day. I know my kid really wants to meet Rizzo. Any advice is appreciated.

The most important advice has already been given. Decide what forums you want to attend and be early for them. If you are in one of the forums that addresses questions from the floor and want a question answered, get in line early.

busting out some big guns for the convention this year, Mike Fontenot, Koyie Hill, Juan Pierre, etc.

I'm sure it probably has happened before but it looks like Ted Lilly and Ian Happ will be in the same building so that is pretty frightening.

Things I remember about the Juan Pierre era

1. leadoff triple of season opener

2. the picture of him with the mustache from when he was on the Rockies

3. Fred putting Juan Pierre grounds out to second base, 4-3, at least 2 times per game in the game threads

The biggest thing about Pierre I remember is that we were going to get Furcal too and re-create Pierre-Castillo from the Marlins. Then Furcal picked the Dodgers and blew up Lee’s wrist in early 2006.

I just checked and rooms with passes are still available for this weekend. Hmm, I haven't gone since 2006 I think? Whatever year it was rumored that the Cubs were in on Barry Zito(LOL)

I'm not a professional autograph seeker, so what is typically brought for players to sign? Pictures, balls, etc?

Also, what is typical for dining? Restaurants in hotel or outside?

Balls are pretty common.

As for food, we always walked somewhere outside the hotel. No idea where the players/org people go.

I'd go out somewhere outside the hotel. Back when it was still at the Hilton I would walk over to Miller's Pub. Great beer selection and good reasonably priced food.

How much early in advance do you need to be at forums and autograph sessions?

The year I went, you got a scratch-off ticket with admission that put you into a specific player's autograph line. The people with the tickets get to go first, then anyone else they have time for (and they switch players every hour). I only got an autograph from the person on my ticket (Maddon)

Hopefully, I don't get Koyie Hill! Are there players signing autographs at any given time? Or, during specific timeframes? I understand that a given player won't be there all day.

You'll catch guys like Ryan Dempster floating around the hotel, but most of the autograph time is very tightly scheduled

DLee looks like it's still 2005

Bob Howry is probably going to join Lilly and Happ in extracurricular activities
