kind of hilarious that you can eliminate like 3 innings over the past couple week's worth of games and our RD would be 26 runs better

So yeah, about that bullpen help I was talking about in the trade thread....... :(

good lord you guys

who is this dude we're going to get who is better than edwards and would've prevented that from happening? did you see what guys like that went for last year?

i mean, come on, you could've at least waited until it was uehara or even strop or something to do this

I'd be a lot less pissed if this wasn't the Cards. I horsefeathering hate the horsefeathering Cards. And the stupid [expletive] losses to them always stick with me forever.

But... another good start from Jake. The bats showed up again today. 12 hits. Several more rockets right at guys. Just one inning from hell from a bullpen that's been mostly good. Might want to shore the pen up, but if not, meh. I've been and still am more worried about offense and rotation, since those are more important -- especially the rotation with the loss of velocity and general ineptitude. But I definitely am still pumped about how we're trending there.

Yeah, Rondon had a rough outing today, but he'd been pitching a lot like the Rondon of old until today. His velocity has been trending up the last month or so, to where he'd been at the last couple years. And over his previous 9 innings, he'd given up 5 hits, 2 BB, and struck out 14, while running a 73.3% GB%. Today's outing definitely tempers any optimism with him. But, I've still got a glimmer of hope with him. Grimm... not so much. If we are clamoring for anyone to be jettisoned, it's got to be him.

But, even still, in Dillon Maples' last outing, he gave up a two-run bomb to a AAA player to lose a game. He's not an answer. Though, I am excited about his resurrection and would like to get a look at him in September.

why is carl a walk machine now

8 BB in his first 20 innings.

16 in his last 18 1/3

And he's still walking fewer batters than he did in the minors (it was over 6/9 IP -- nice -- in his last three MiLB stints/levels). Some regression was inevitable, but yeah it's been a bit extreme now.

I'd wondered for a while why teams weren't being more patient with him. Even when he wasn't walking guys, his command was still pretty bad and he was getting bailed out by swings. Obviously his crazy movement is part of that. But perhaps teams indeed are being more patient on him now and forcing him to throw strikes, because few people actually hit him anyway.

Wow. You just described Carlos Marmol.

Man I feel confident when Carl comes in but not even close to as confident during peak Marmol. It was an 8 inning game with him in 2007

he's talking about post 08 marmol (even though CJ has actually had better peripherals in his career than 07 and 08 marmol) and how teams just stopped swinging at stuff bc they couldn't hit it anyway

kinda a similar thing happened to arrieta
