Not too surprising. Buddy of mine predicted that before the last loss. When you're in charge of the PK and the defense, and that happens....not good.

They say that after every season that doesn't end in a parade. The evidence suggests otherwise- at least mostly. When possible, Stan has gotten the guys that Q wants; Oduya this year, Ladd last year as the most recent examples. Q said they had to keep Shaw but Stan traded him anyway. Does anyone really remember or care that Shaw is gone? Was Q upset that Shaw got traded or was he just being a player's coach and saying that even though he knew they weren't going to pay Shaw what he wound up getting?

 

The real test of their relationship will be if Stan trades TVR to force Q to develop one of the young defensemen instead. That isn't about Q "hating young players" which is mostly absurd. It's about making a commitment to patiently endure their growing pains.

It makes even less sense when you consider that Rockford already sucked when they traded away those guys- who were exactly that, guys.

So it looks as though the Hawks will lose TVR and Kruger to the expansion draft- one drafted and the other traded. I'm still hoping that Vegas takes Kruger and trades him minus half his salary back to the Hawks for TVR and maybe a draft pick or 2. That would help the Hawks cap situation and allow the Golden Showers to add some depth for their AHL and other affiliates.

If he doesn't retire but doesn't play we still get the same cap hit for him, we just don't get the punitive additional cap hit right?

is he "can't" play because of this, he'll just go on the ltir for the rest of the contract, and there will be no recapture penalties (if he just retired, there would be a 4.275 cap hit for each of the 4 remaining years of his contract). it's been speculated for years that some injury would force him into retirement near the end of his contract. and 17-18 also happens to be the year his actual salary drops down to 1 million.

Not really. They won't replace his value with $5m

it not great in the immediate future, but if there's a chance of extending the window another 3-4 years, it helps there. it definitely makes panarin more realistic in a couple years.
