Is Butler a legit top 10 player in the league now? Lebron, Curry, Durant, Harden, Westbrook, Davis, Lilliard are the first tier. But Butler is right there in that 2nd tier with guys like Derozan, Isiah Thomas, Leonard, and Kyrie Irving....and I'd take Butler over at least a couple of those guys.

lillard? nah.

lebron, curry, durant, harden, kawhi, paul, westbrook, harden, davis, griffin, and maybe kyrie is the top 10 in some order

jimmy's somewhere between 10-15. i'd put derozan and lillard in that group.

KAT will assume top 5-7 status by year end IMO

I'll give you Kyrie and Kahwi, those are the 2 guys in my group of 4 that I wouldn't take Butler over. But Griffin? Paul? I honestly never been a huge Griffin fan, made a lot better by Chris Paul. Paul is still pretty good, but he's getting up there in age, I think Kyrie's better and he's at the bottom on my top 10. Either way, I think we're both talking about Butler pretty close to the top 10. I'd put him right at 10.

I'll be a homer (not really, since the consensus of ranking sites has him in the top 10) and suggest Paul George should be in this conversation. George and Butler are actually a fascinating head to head comparison because they are so similar of players. Butler's been better at getting to the rim while George has been better behind the arc, but other than that their games match up fairly well.

i know we're not gonna give up on rondo just yet but this team could really use a pg who can guard a little and hit a 3 when left open.

Surprised UMFan hadn't posted it...

6. Chicago Bulls

2016-17 record: 10-6

Previous ranking: 8

How perfect. The Bulls have only one game left this month: Wednesday night's date with the Lakers. The same Lakers who stand as the only team that can realistically deny Jimmy Butler & Co. from being crowned November's Biggest Surprise Team. Chicago awoke Monday on a short list of three teams, alongside only Golden State and the L.A. Clippers, that find themselves in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency -- as predicted by absolutely no one.

Chicago Bulls

Record: 10-6

Pace: 97.7 (22) OffRtg: 107.0 (7) DefRtg: 102.1 (8) NetRtg: +4.9 (6)

The Bulls went 4-2 on the final circus trip, though they might want a redo on Tuesday's final offensive possession in Denver, in which they drew up a play for an Isaiah Canaan airball. Of course, it's not like Jimmy Butler (4-for-17) and Dwyane Wade (3-for-13) have shot well in clutch situations. Canaan's shot hasn't been the only issue with their bench of late, as they've been outscored by 31 points in 34 minutes with Jimmy Butler off the floor in their last three games. Their bench has been better at home than on the road and they now play nine of their next 12 games at the United Center.

This week: vs. LAL, vs. CLE, @ DAL

Tonight should be a blowout win against a shorthanded and tired Lakers team. Hopefully no weird trap game crap with the Cavs game coming up.

Can't believe we had so many damn days off in a row. So strange.

I hope MCW and McDermott's return help the bench. It's ugly with them out there. Also would enjoy seeing something fun from Portis.

this team is so fun

except when bobby portis is in the game

He was out there a long time and did no good things and lots of bad things

this team sucks

no, they really don't by any definition of that word.

but this game sucked. and we really need mcdermott and mcw back. and portis needs to be in the d league.

Very strange loss. Big early lead coming off 4 days of rest against a theoretically inferior team playing their 3rd game in 4 nights on the road.

I think they are a 6-8 seed, which is higher than I expected going in. Decent, good even, but not immune to these types of losses.

disclaimer: have legit watched maybe 30 minutes of Bulls basketball this year. Rest of the time has been the game on in the background while doing other things. For some reason this team doesn't interest me as much as it should.

Only cleveland and toronto are good in the east. 3 through whatever are up for grabs.

boston, charlotte, and atlanta will be comfortably ahead of the bulls in the standings by year end

this weird ass game (after for some reason like 5 days off) where they lost to a much worse (partly because shorthanded) team, wherein one of the best rebounding teams in basketball got out-rebounded badly and they shot 35% as a team isn't some sort of referendum on the season. oh and they put them on the line a horsefeathers ton when they are one of the best teams in the league at keeping teams off the line. where are the posts when they're winning games by double digits routinely (edit - this is probably overstating the point differential - but they've had lots of big leads, some big wins, and have mostly lost close, with a couple exceptions)?

they've played like a top 10 team on both offense and defense this year. there aren't many teams who can make that claim.

I might agree but all those teams have looked as bad as the bulls looked in individual games this year too.

this is probably the worst loss of the year... it's this or denver. Actually, the knicks game is up there too.

the loss to the clippers sucked because they had a big lead against an elite team, but the clippers are really damn good.
