I'm guessing most of us didn't watch much of this game. The radio people are tearing the Bears apart for the performance which makes me glad I didn't watch much of it so I don't overreact to a preseason game. I mean how bad could it really be for a fake game?

Really bad but yeah, it's preseason. And from what I've seen on Twitter, it sounds like the Broncos were inexplicably playing off something resembling a real game plan in week 1 of the preseason.

I don't get that last point at all.

they weren't just lining up and running vanilla plays like most teams do in the first preseason game, from what i saw from a couple people on twitter. i can't speak to that much as i only watched the first series on offense and defense before switching over to the cubs game.

I'm still optimistic. Cutler will most likely have 2 guys that can play wide receiver.

I get what it means just not how it's a legit complaint.

Yeah, the Broncos were running exotic blitzes. Overloads to one side, delayed blitzes, sending safeties, sending 7 vs. 6 blockers. Not typically things teams do in the first preseason game. Of course, the Broncos are a team that has a lot of continuity. They have guys that have been running the same system for a few years now. It makes sense that they would see how (especially the new guys) play in a system they will actually run. The Bears clearly weren't prepared to play a team with an actual gameplan. But that's their own fault. And even if they were, they still were atrocious blocking anyone which is not acceptable.

"5 sacks were 4 man rush -2 sacks were 5 man rush-- 0 sacks were blitzes," Phillips said, adding, "Funny how 'experts' don't know a blitz ( 6 rush-5 cover eligible receivers) from a dog (5 rush-6 cover) --there are also pseudo blitz & dog schemes."

They have a saying in Triple-A baseball for players grousing about their fate in purgatory. "Don't like? Play better."

More from that link....

The one that raised eyebrows was safety T.J. Ward's crushing of Jay Cutler. I asked Phillips about the play at Saturday's practice.

His explanation, one echoed by former Broncos lineman Mark Schlereth to me last week, made sense. It was a green dog. In simple terms, the running back stepped into the hole to greet linebacker Brandon Marshall. Ward's responsibility in coverage was the back. Once he removed himself from a pattern, Ward was free to freelance. As is his wont, he attacked.

I assumed he misspelled Cutler (mainly because of the "not kidding" part) and got really excited at the idea of actually seeing a furious Jay.

Granted, this was made for the Lions, but let's bask in the Bears' shittiness, too:

Offense looks pretty good

Yeah it looked good. I don't take anything from preseason but it's nice to not look like they don't belong on the field.
