The only thing that would make some of you not overreact would be a 35-0 perfect game where every player hits 2 HRs.

Where has there been overreacting in this thread?

Where has there been overreacting in this thread?

It's all in anticipating the negative outcome in every situation, really.

That doesn't really define overreaction.

I'd be surprised if Coughlan gets a pitch to hit here.

And that's why. Too much of the plate for Vizcaino and it's 4-0.

Now what's all this drivel about anticipating the negative outcome ??

I'm just saying with first base open and Castro behind him being generally less of an XBH threat, I'd expect they pitch around Coughlan...they didn't and the Cubs scored.

So much for Catro's mindset of going to right field.

He got a fastball on the inner half...

.... and he sure knew what to do with it, eh?

Well, he flew out to center, which suggests he was a bit behind it on the swing but tried to pull it. Taking that pitch to right field would have been a mistake.

More to the point, this team has made 6 XBH in their last 6 games. I can't imagine why the other teams aren't challenging every hitter, every AB. When the norm is a negative outcome, you tend to expect a negative outcome.

Swinging from the heels and popping it up to shallow center field is never a better option.

The point is this...In this run environment, even the best hitters have a negative outcome 3 out of 5 times at the plate, and an average hitter has a negative outcome more than 2 of 3 times. So sure, you can expect a negative outcome and be right more often than not, but it's not going to lead to anything productive.

When there's a string of bashing posts about nearly every Cub every time to the plate, I start to wonder if anyone in the thread is actually still rooting for the team to do well.
