Schwarber's batting 3rd and catching for the US team. Edwards is slated to pitch in the later innings.

This made my week.

If Schwarber can hit at an all-star/elite level as a catcher from the left side in the bigs, the Cubs chances of winning a world series are greatly improved.

I know minor league conditions and pay are suboptimal but would it kill Matt Vasgersian to stop calling minor league players "property," especially because I don't imagine he's out there trying to improve the plight of the minor leaguer?

And Schwarber was named the Futures Game MVP.

FYI, Pierce Johnson (5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K) got the start for Tennessee and Trevor Clifton (6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K) got the start for South Bend. Jeremy Null goes for Myrtle Beach and Carson Sands for Eugene.

.

What does this mean?

Pop time is the time between 'pops' in a stolen base attempt, so the timer starts when Schwarber catches the ball and stops when the infielder catches the throw at 2B.

what type of benchmark is 2 seconds? really good? just acceptable?

2.0 is about average for a major league catcher.

I'm trying to imagine this in my head and 2 seconds seems like it's light speed, but yeah that seems right. There was a statcast of Molina throwing a runner out from his knees that had his pop time at 1.71 seconds.

Sounds like it would be a useful tool, but going by this, there's quite a discrepancy between this guy's 1.97 (meh) and the other guy's 1.94 (above average.) This being said, it's a pretty big kink to iron out before making it a thing.

Seems like Zagunis has hit quite the slump. .135/.233/.216 over his last 10. Still has a healthy .293/.423/.436, but wasn't his OPS hovering around .900 about a week ago?

And Carson Sands was roughed up fairly bad. 2.2 IP, 2/1 BB/K, 6 R: But since 0 were earned, I guess they never happened. A silly concept, really. And FWIW, Emeralds lost 15-2 :hello:

Some random low level stuff:

Trey McNutt hasn't pitched since he resurfaced for 0.2 inning on July 2.

A few of our recent pitching converts are off to good SSS starts:

-Mark Malave 8 IP 2/12 BB/K 0.00 ERA 0.75 WHiP

-Ariel Ovando (Rule 55 guy) 6 IP 1/11 BB/K 1.00 WHiP

This is only a problem if you decide to ignore context and blindly follow the chart. Don't be that person.

Also, if you're putting a grade on someone, you're measuring many throws and not just one.
