I'm not sure whose hitting I've been most disappointed in between Castro, Fowler, and Soler. I mean, Castro's been the worst, obviously, but I was expecting Soler to be a high-.800s OPS monster and Fowler to continue being one of the best leadoff hitters in the game. Very disappointing.

I don't know but when just almost every hitter is underperforming expectations or career norms you have to wonder if something is wrong with their instruction.

Len was just singing the praises of Mallee earlier in the game.

Still not ready to worry about Soler although his approach has been garbage, but he's young. Starlin and Fowler shouldn't be this bad.

Fowler had Mallee last year as a coach though and had a really good season. Soler's inability to lay off sliders is more his own fault. I'm not sure what's up with Castro however and why he can't hit anything hard; last August before he got hurt he was squaring everything up.

Something seriously needs to be done about this. 1 hit off Mat Latos in 6 innings is inexcusable.

Just playing devils advocate I guess but the strike zones been [expletive] and Latos' stuff has been pretty good

The strike zone has benefitted both pitchers

If this was a one game thing, I'd agree with you, but the offense has been bad since the Dodgers series. And I get the Dodgers, Cardinals, and Mets have good pitching but they also struggled against Jonathan Niese, Bartolo Colon, and Tom Koehler in this stretch.

I think PTR only owns one shirt.

You know things have hit bottom when people actually start to think the problem might be the hitting coach.

Well...Houston sure has improved since they fired his ass

The Cubs need to replace pat Hughes ASAP if they have to put up with this incompetence every game.

Did something happen today or just in general?

think he's referring to the coomer PBP inning which doesn't really need explaining if you've ever heard one

There was an article a few days back where Fowler pretty much blamed 100% of his OBP issues on the inconsistent strike zone

He sees the dollars going down by the day. Smart to grasp at anything as a reason, I suppose.

Again, they don't hit. They bash a ton of homers. That probably has nothing to do with who their coach is.
