No. Not woosh. That's exactly what you were both implying.

That is not at all what he said.

What he said it that you are acting a bit dickish if you join a pre-existing group and then tell them they are all acting like dicks. There was no insinuation of needing to be here for any length of time to have an intelligent thought.

I dont disagree with you that starting new topics is a problem on forums. I moderate a few myself. My point is there's a better way to curb that behavior than to come into the thread and [expletive] all over it. I mean you guys DO want traffic to the site, right? You're turning so many newbies away.

I think a lot of sports fans tend to think they have the solution (myself included) to a team's woes, therefore instead of ridiculing someone's idea or thought - it can be discussed or never even acknowledged in the first place. I'm not insulting the intelligence of this forum - but more the average fan in general.

I'm really not trying to argue or piss any of you off. I just really think this has been a problem with this site for a looooooong time. Seen a lot of new people post a few times, get made fun of, and then never seen or heard from again. There's just got to be a better way.

I do not understand what you are talking about with regards to starting threads. I didn't say anything about curbing that behavior.

Agreed. I'm relatively new here and I feel like my baseball knowledge is definitely above average but it's not as good as some of you, but the one thing I've noticed is that there's a handful of people who post who will jump at any opportunity they can to be a dick.

I feel ya bro.

Go start your own board together.

NSBB is best when it's more exclusive, sorry.

To be 100% clear, anyone is welcome to post at NSBB.

However, that does not mean that anyone is welcome to post whatever they want. NSBB was created years ago in response to low quality conversations that happened in other Cubs forums, so the people who congregate here have the expectation of thoughtful discussion. In general, it's a good idea to stop and think if what you're saying is noteworthy and/or something other people would be interested in reading/hearing. I start posts and give up on them all the time with this in mind.

So basically what your saying is that although there is clearly no "Posting Guidelines" listed on the site that there is this unspoken rule about what is deemed acceptable and unacceptable content? I don't see a sticky anywhere saying "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING".

We don't have many hard rules here, which has its benefits and drawbacks. I'm not saying 'you better not post X', I'm saying that it's a good idea to stop and think before posting to make sure what you're saying is worthwhile and interesting. If you post things that are not worthwhile or interesting with regularity, the end result is the rest of the forum probably isn't going to be very happy when you post, and no one wants that.

So do the Cubs "own" the Mets or not?

Talk about that in the game thread. This isn't a thoughtful enough topic to warrant a whole thread.

If you want shitty Cubs talk about random crap, do it somewhere else.

Man, take a Xanax or something.

I would think that in the slang term "OWN" meaning dominate, beat, and continuously prove to be a better team - I would have to say this would be a logical statement.

To simplify this even more - ads make money. The more people see ads, the more money the site makes. The more money the site makes, the more upgrades Tim can do. I mean is this rocket surgery to you guys or something? Just be nice to new people. Edited by DiamondMind

How can you really believe that......? It's just a circle jerk in that case.

Because idiots who don't know anything about baseball don't add to the quality of discussion. There are bad posters when it's more exclusive, but far fewer than there are when the new guys show up.

For every good new poster that shows up, like North for example, there are countless posters who show up and add literally nothing.
