Instead of calling up Schwarber, why not promote Christian Villanueva instead? He can play third- I've never heard anything bad about his defense. He's had a pretty good season at AAA. If he flops it's not a great loss since there are other guys ahead and behind him.

 

Because the whole point is to bring up someone who can, you know, hit. Villanueva is a huge question mark in that aspect at best.

 

See, now that games actually matter, this would be a great time to have something like a Jake Fox or Bryan LaHair who could come up and go on a tear until they stop feeding him a steady diet of straight fastballs.

Honestly, it would be a nice way to replenish the farm after losing Bryant, Soler, and Russell at the start of the farm system rankings season.

 

Because that's precisely how they should base their decisions.

 

And if this is truly a concern to you, I'd be willing to bet that when the official mid-season rankings come out, we have at least Schwarber and Torres in the top 25-50 and Edwards and McKinney in the top 100, and any of Underwood, Johnson, Almora, Happ, Jimenez, Zagunis, and Vogelbach could potentially check in as well, with Sands, Steele, Cease, and DeWees as possibilities for next year's rankings.
