Hendricks now has one of the only 6 Shut Outs so far this year. Oddly enough, another one of them belongs to upcoming trainwreck Josh Collmenter.

It looks like they will give Wada at least 1 more start. If he is bad again hopefully by then we will have found a replacement for him whether it's via trade or it's someone like Turner or another minor leaguer.

Turner is still probably like a month away, but he's definitely my first choice to replace Wada.

Also, fun Kyle Hendricks stat! Using BRef for this:

Total WAR with Cubs: 3.7

Total WAR Rangers got from Dempster AND Garza: 0.2

Grass is always greener. At least Wood is showing promise out of the pen. Curious what starters they're looking at via trade. I don't think Hamels or Kazmir will come to fruition for various reasons. But waiting a month and seeing if Turner is any good is more of last few years move than a #wearegood one. Maddon piggybacking Wada is playing his cards as well as he can - it's been interesting.

Just thought I'd cherry pick some advanced stats on Kyle. He's good for a 1.8 WAR per Fangraphs or 1.4 per BBR.

According to Fangraphs:

1.121 WHiP (above average/great)

3.33 FIP (above average/great)

3.45 XFIP (above average/great)

86 XFIP- (average)

92 ERA- (average)

K% 19.8 (average)

BB% 4.3% (poor)

Truthfully, I don't know what to make of half of this. But I can only assume that it's better than most 4 starters. Probably a few 3s.

Hendricks' walk rate is 7th best of 97 qualified starters, it's a reflection of his best quality(command/control).

Still wondering what UMFan was talking about when he said we need AT LEAST 2 starters.

That "poor" figure is currently tied for 7th in the league with Greinke.

Nothing wrong with having Hendricks at the back of the rotation.

I will say, however, that while I'm happy with the recent performances I don't take much from them. He has pitched against the Mets, a Staton-less Marlins team and the White Sox. A pitcher still has to perform and make pitches, but this recent stretch was set up for success.

Hendricks now has 30 starts in MLB. 179.1 IP, 3.06 ERA, 3.32 FIP, 3.66 xFIP, 3.4 fWAR, 4.3 bWAR

He's good.

That's an easy one; I was looking at the K% and BB% for hitters, not pitchers. So in reality, his 19.8 K% is on the low end of above average and his 4.3 BB% isn't so much poor as it is borderline excellent (4.0%.) And I will now change my pants.

I thought he confused it with BB/9, and even then that figure is absurdly terrible and in no way befitting of Hendricks' skillset. His actual BB/9 is 1.546, which is 8th best in baseball. Hammel is 9th with 1.563.

Hammel also has the 5th best WHIP in baseball, 10th in H/9, and 7th in K/BB.

Fun stuff.

Hendricks just reached 32 starts at the MLB level, a full season of work.

191 IP (1 inning short of 6 IP/GS)

20.7 K% / 4.6 BB% / 7.8% HR/FB

3.16 ERA / 3.27 FIP / 3.56 xFIP

74% LOB% / .285 BABIP

3.8 fWAR / 4.1 bWAR

In the last calendar year, he's 9th of 80 qualified SP in hard hit rate (Arrieta is 3rd). He is very good.

Cubs traded: Dempster ||| Garza

Rangers traded: Villanueva, Hendricks ||| Olt, Grimm, Edwards, Ramirez

I still can't believe in two trades this is what the Cubs did. It's pure "can't predict baseball" that Olt is so useless out of everyone and also pretty surprising how successful all the Rangers Pitchers have been for the Cubs.
