I've never heard that one.

 

The rule is a player taken in the MLB that has no MLB experience (or isn't one of the IFA's that's designated eligible by the commish) has to start the year with the big club. That's the rule that prevents someone from drafting a prospect with no MLB experience in the MLB draft.

2014 Alex Guerrero:

- no previous MLB experience

- selected in Roadkill MLB draft

- starts the league in MLB

verdict: had to stay on Roadkill main roster all year

 

2013 Bruce Rondon:

- no previous MLB experience

- selected in Roadkill MLB draft

- did NOT start the year in MLB

verdict: had to be removed from roster / added to FA list

 

it seems like a person could have gambled on Kang at any point in the MLB draft (like Rondon, 2015 Micah Johnson) and risked losing him if he started in AAA, so he should fully qualify for waivers right now

ok you can bicker over it all you want. the point of the rule is to penalize someone drafting a prospect with no MLB experience in the MLB draft. if that prospect doesn't start the year with the major league team, you lose the player.

Rondon is application of the very rule I mentioned a second ago.

 

Guerrero was an IFA that was subject to the IFA rule. Before the draft, the commish identifies which ones are eligible for which draft. Tweeners (for lack of a better word) are usually eligible to be drafted in the MLB draft, but you have to keep them in the majors all year. Tim even asked and acknowledged that this rule applied when he drafted him. That's why he had to be kept in the majors all year.

Not sure what to do with Aloe Vera since he wasn't signed when the draft started. I seem to recall a similar situation last year but I don't remember where we ended up. I think it's dumb to put a 30 year old in the prospect draft, so I'd prefer waivers or next year's draft.

I realize the age makes in not appropriate for the minor league draft but the other options (waivers and next year's draft) seems unreasonable. Since he has never played in the MLB, the minor league draft makes the most sense.
