C Montero/Ross

1B Rizzo

2B Baez/Alcantara

SS Russell

3B Castro

LF Bryant

CF Fowler

RF Soler

I see no redundancies. I see a stacked freaking lineup.

Not much room for Schwarber in that lineup if it turns out he can't catch. But, I suppose that's a good problem rather than a bad problem.

Baez to Japan, Bryant to 3B, Castro to 2B.

Bryant to LF is a one way trip. From there he could go to first but it's pretty unlikely he'd get moved back to 3rd. What's the timetable for Schwarber? He might be the guy that replaces Rizzo in a couple years.

whaaa? he's locked in through 2021 (including the team options) at a BEYOND reasonable rate (like, even the team option years are a massive bargain had he been receiving that salary last season). unless something goes horribly wrong, there will be no need to replace rizzo any time soon.

Well, he will get paid SEVEN MILLION dollars during the 2018 season and jumps all the way up to ELEVEN MILLION in 2019, so perhaps we won't be able to afford him by that time, even if he is one of the best first baseman in the game.

If they have Schwarber ready and need a place to play him, 1st base would seem like the easiest- maybe only -place. It has less to do with Rizzo and more the limited options regarding Schwarber. I like Rizzo. But if you move Bryant to LF he's blocking Schwarber unless he moves to first and Schwarber moves to LF. Back to the original point, they need to keep Bryant at 3rd for as long as they can.

Uhh if that all plays out and he can't catch, you get rid of Schwarber, not Rizzo.

The DH is coming anyways. We'll have a spot for Schwarber.

I can't even believe those figures are correct. I legitimately don't believe it.

for a fun comparison, at the same time Albert Pujols will make $55M combined for his age-38 & -39 seasons

No. We let Rizzo play here until he's 32 or whatever and then let him get overpaid by the Dodgers to end his career.
