Per MLBTR.com, Stroman is out for the year and D. Navarro wants out because of reduced playing time. Let's say TOR finds a way to cut Navarro loose, what if we offered:

One of Wood/Turner/Dubront/Wada & Castillo for either Devon Travis or Dwight Smith - both low 20's aged, OBP guys who could develop some power. We'd be paying all salaries of any players going TOR's way as MLBTR also reports they have instituted a spending freeze.

Seems like a win-win as TOR is/should be going for it now with the Yankees down and an aging core.

I could see Wood or Wada going there, but I have my doubts Toronto would want to replace Navarro with Castillo, and Travis stands a great chance of getting significant PT at 2B so I doubt he's available(or really a good target for the Cubs).

Isn't Navarro their 3rd catcher?

ETA: He is, and Josh Thole is the backup who is Dickey's personal knuckleball catcher, something Castillo would almost certainly be terrible at.

Navarro is making $3m, Castillo is making $530,000. For the limited amount of time the backup catcher is even going to be on the field, that's a pretty good savings. Esp when you consider that WC could serve as backup DH in case of injury.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they sat pat for now and waited to see how Aaron Sanchez and Daniel Norris performed this spring. I wouldn't be surprised if they simply opted for uh, what's their top 3 without Stroman, Dickey/Buehrle/Hutchison? ... , and picked 2 out of Sanchez/Norris/Estrada to fill out the rotation for now. At the very least, I doubt they'd consider anything until the end of spring, and the chances seem high that there would be several options available to them. A part of me half-wonders if Anthoupoulos may try to swing for a top end starter, although that would thin out the system.

Castillo is making $2.1 million for 2015.
