Wonder what ball this is:

in the tournament played with a rubber baseball instead of the harder ball.

According to the tournament rules, if the game was still tied after 54 innings, the winner would have been decided in a drawing.

Who even thinks to put in a rule like that?

When I was stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, we played a modified fast pitch tournament in town with a rubberized ball. The championship game was tied at the end of seven innings and the umps told us to line up across the team from Japan. Not kidding, to play best-of-nine rock-paper-scissors to determine the champion. They won 5-4 and celebrated like the 1980 US hockey team.
