I see we've named most of the staff, including a QA coach. What are his responsibilities exactly?

One of the things he'll be asked to do is to scout the Cubs just like our advance scouts scout upcoming opponents. The stated purpose of this is to identify things the team is doing poorly with an eye toward taking corrective action.

Here's how Maddon described the position when he "created" it for his staff. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether it'll mean the same thing on our staff...

"With all the information that's thrown out there today, I thought the one position I'd always like to have was an information coach — a guy who acts as a liaison between scouting and us (in the dugout). I also thought we could use a guy to really organize our day, a guy who scouts us and analyzes videos — kind of an assistant to everybody."

""Other teams spend so much time advance scouting opponents and not enough time scouting themselves...Tim will spend a lot of time looking at areas other teams might try to exploit."

For several organizations, the QA coach creates the match up binders. Organizes and prioritizes the info and highlights things (about his own players in the context of upcoming matchups) for the coaches.
