Too early to start, but not to talk about...

I thought we might want a thread with all the pertinent information. I hope it will make a newbie's life easier.

Rules

10 keepers

10 minor leaguers - Can't be in the minors if, in any single season, a player has (1) 200 or more major league ABs, (2) 10 or more pitching starts, or (3) 25 or more pitching appearances.

2000 point max

3 exemption years - a player burns an exemption year if a player has (1) 50 or more PAs, (2) 5 or more pitching starts, or (3) 10 or more pitching appearances. So, for example, Kyle Seager had 50+ PAs in 2011 (1), 50+ PAs in 2012 (2), and 50+ PAs this year (3). So this is his last exempt year. I can keep him as exempt this off-season, but his point total in 2014 will have to be counted next off-season.

Also, yes, players can burn an exemption without losing minor league eligibility. For example, Wong had just over 50 PAs in the majors this year, so he's used his first exemption. But he's below the 200 AB limit, so I can keep him as a prospect. Junior Lake, by contrast, cannot be kept as a prospect because he had just over 200 ABs this year.

Timetable - rosters legal by???

When does trading start???? I assume we should wait until all of our owners are on board.

Can someone fill in the missing pieces?

Also, it looks like I may be able to take on points. Who has the stud pitcher for sale this year? I have plenty of quality exempt and low point players ...Mauer, Teixiera, Harrison, Braun, Dickerson, Gomes, Arenado, Duffy, Reed, and Ross to name a few.

The core of my keeper team is set - all offensive players:

Trout (exempt)

Donaldson (exempt)

Machado (exempt)

Tulo (416.3 + today)

CarGo (393.5)

Heyward (290.8 + today)

Salazar (exempt)

That puts me at 1100.5 for those seven guys (plus today's scoring).

That means that I've got just under 900 points to keep some combination of:

Cano

Wainwright

Scherzer

(Jordan) Zimmerman

Kuroda

Liriano

Samardzija

Nova

Rodney

Papelbon

Each and every one of those guys is on the market. Quakers - I'll be making an offer to you.

To supplement, Pence, Rios, Andrus, Swisher (lol), Pagan (hey, he's cheap), CJ Wilson, and Latos are all available.

I'm keeping Felix (602.5), Davis (636.25), HRam (320), Kinsler (409.5), Seager (E), Lake (E), Cingrani (E), Ryu (E), Rosario (E), and then either Cishek or Chen. [total points may be a little off, but I'm way under 2000]

I tried to clarify the exemption and prospect limits. abuck will have to weigh in on trading season. If we have all the managers back, we shouldn't need to wait for trading like we did last year.

So...so far I have the best four guys on the market. Let's talk!

This is the time of year when Tim tells everyone how great his players (that he isn't keeping) are.

The market for Rodney should be HOT

Yeah, ok. That's who I'm highlighting.

Apparently, we're good to go.

where was this stated?

I'm just went to the trade page and was able to make an offer. When I tried to make someone an offer last week, it wouldn't let me.

Whether we have the league blessings I guess has to be determined.

Unlike last year, I think we need a statement before we have half the teams negotiate while others wait for approval.

Can we just wait to discuss trades until we know whether trading can start?

Managers need to reset their rosters themselves. I think that's how it was done last year and I'm guessing abuck isn't going to fix all the rosters himself.

I have CC on my roster so whoever had him before the playoffs offer a trade for him and I will accept.

Below are my keepers

Keepers 1815.5

1B Fielder 500.75

3B Middlebrooks E

OF Aoki E

OF Hamilton 392.5

DH Zimmerman 424.75

SP Minor E

SP Wheeler E

SP Griffin E

SP Fister 497.5

RP Symyl E

Kimbrel, Phillips, and Allen are on the block if you are looking for points...

So is this going to be like last year and we are going to wait till the last minute to finalize everything? It would be nice to be able to start trading.

we'd better hurry, next season is now less than 6 months away!
