Offensively for Almora do you think a decent comp would be Nate Mclouth the two-three years he was good with the Pirates (obviously his defense projects to be much better)?

2007: 10.2%bb, 20.2%k .258/.351/.459 13HR/22SB

2008: 9.5%bb, 13.6%k .276/.356/.459 26HR/23SB

2009: 11.5%bb, 16.8%k .256./.352/.436 20HR/19SB

Higher average and a lower walk rate.

Figures all 3 play today when I'll be in Phoenix tomorrow. I'm guessing I'll get a nice dosage of Wes Darvill and nothing more. :(

Almora strikes me as the kind of guy who could maintain the exact same level of production at every stop.

Me too. Mostly because of his track record and the fact that he's doing it at such a young age. Combine that with his work ethic and thats a good recipe for maintaining production as one moves up. It remains to be seen whether he can do it, but it was Almora's make-up and ability to reach his ceiling or at least get the most out of his talent that caused him to be taken 6th over more talented or equally talented prospects.

If Almora puts up an .800 OPS, he'd probably be the best player on the team

Quite possibly. If a guy can play GG defense at a premium position and put up an .800 OPS, that'd be pretty tough to top.

that would be close to best case scenario with him, so yes i'd take that

According to scouts, the thing about Almora that sets him apart is his apparent ability to fulfill his best case scenario. Now, of course, he just has to do it. Easier said...

People always talk about Almora's makeup and all-around skills but lack of plus tool. I think he has a pretty elite hit tool though. His ability to hit for average gets overlooked.

Soler hard hit single up the middle on the first pitch.
Posted

Cron hit a 3-run HR, about 370 feet.

Bryant flew out to medium depth RF on a 2-1 pitch.

Posted
Well-hit grounder right at Bryant, who fields it cleanly, checks the baserunner back to third and throws the guy out at first.

Soler strikes out on a 2-2 pitch, he was ahead of an off speed offering for the third strike.

He doesn't have Baez bat speed but his bat speed is impressive.

Sorry for the mediocre quality:

Bryant flew out to medium depth RF again.

Bryant cleanly fields his second ground ball and throws the runner out. Both chances were relatively easy.

FYI, Soler is DHing and Almora has the day off.

Little white kid near me just told Soler: "Sosa, hit a home run so I can get it."

Soler grounded out 5-3, hustled down the line and ran well. Run scored on the groundout. He went down 0-2, worked the count to 2-2 before grounding out.
Posted

Bryant fell behind 1-2, worked the count 3-2.

I have video of both ground outs. Missed getting video of Soler's single, the only hit between the two in 6 at bats.

Armando Rivero is pretty thin. No radar gun but he's throwing harder than any other pitcher here.

Darvill made a really nice play at second.

ETA: He ranged to his left, made a fantastic diving stop and got the runner at first. He even got a loud ovation from the generally sleepy crowd.

Love this guy in the pen. And he's very tall and lanky. Looks like a giant.

Bryant 2-3 with a 2 doubles and a walk thus far today (2 innings left to go)

Almora 3-3 with a double
