It's time to see if Columbus can finally woo a big free agent. I would hope that the team's strong showing last season, coupled with their move to the Eastern Conference would make it an attractive option, but that remains to be seen

Yes, the relegation should do wonders for Columbus's outlook.

Hahaha.

Apparently the Blue are interested in Briere. If the money is right I like it.

anyone care to give a quick synopsis of what the blackhawks chances of retaining Bickell are? I know he's set to get a good payday, i know little about their cap status/money under it. I assume Stalberg and Emery are gone, but would like to retain Bickell. Would love someone to take Montador too while we're at it.

I haven't crunched the numbers. You're right Emery is gone for sure. And good for him he'll probably get a raise and perhaps a chance to play more.

I wouldn't pay Bickell what the market will bear for him. I still think someone will give him $4-5m over 4-5 years. No thanks.

I don't think he'll get that much.

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning will use a compliance buy-out, as allowed by the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, on center Vincent Lecavalier, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today. Lecavalier becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 5, eligible to sign with any team in the NHL, except Tampa Bay. The Lightning will pay Lecavalier two-thirds of the value of his existing contract over twice the term of the deal.

@RenLavoieRDS: Lots of teams received a call from Canucks to see if they have any interest in Corey Schneider. Kind of a surprise no ? #RDS

Yup. Apparently Calgary and Edmonton offered significantly more but Gillis didn't want to keep him in the division.

Bickell gets 4/ $4 million. Montador gets bought out. Stalberg is most definitely gone but Emery looks like will resign and hope for a better cap situation after next season. Lots more on that in the Blackhawks thread.

Last I heard, Letang wanted $8 million per. There's no way he can get that in Pit.

Looks like Vinny is going to the Flyers. Seems like an odd fit for both. They need D and G more than another offensive player and didn't have much cap room even before this signing. I would think since he is getting paid already by TB he would want to go to a team that is in better position to win right away.
