Both Martz and Tice were poor choices. The chatter at the time was that Lovie was a potential lame duck coach.

Nothing says they'll be there at the end of the contract. Lovie/Shanahan/Tomlin all have to perform to keep their jobs. If you are a potential OC with any confidence in your own abilities, you will be willing to gamble on yourself creating a winner.
