$21k fine for a legal block on a "defenseless" defender? I might be missing something here but a defender running after the ball carrier within 2 steps of him gets blocked in the chest without leading with the head or launching himself and he gets a fine.

I realize that Golden Tate's hit to Sean Lee looks hardcore but it was legal in all stretches of the game. Not sure I get that one

Yeah, I watched that one on You Tube a couple of times trying to find justification for the fine. I don't see it, either.

Looks like a 100% legal hit to me. Roger Goodell is a hypocritcal [expletive].

Rofl...what?? Tate is very clearly leading with his helmet in that pic. I don't know what you're looking at.

Sean Lee was not 'defenseless' on that play and if every play where someone led with the head was fined and penalized the NFL would be out of business by next Tuesday.

That's a dumb statement. Doesn't even make sense with what you are trying to say. Which again, is dumb.

I keep looking at it on You Tube, and I think it's just a great block by a much smaller receiver against a LB. He knew he needed to plant to get off a hit to avoid getting run over himself. Fortunately for him on that play, the LB wasn't paying attention to anything but the QB for the WR to get off a good block.

Seems like the NFL is pretty consistent here. Don't line up a kill shot on a guy who is looking at the ball and not at you. Tate could have very easily blocked Lee out of the play without de-cleating him. Does that upper bound limit of aggressiveness make it harder to do the job? Certainly, just like it's now harder than ever to defend receivers or hit the quarterback. But the directive is safety over unnecessary aggression, and considering the circumstances(unnecessary to the play, led with the helmet, looked bad by de-cleating him), the fine seems pretty par for the course.

looks like he is leading with his left shoulder into him, since the shoulder is hitting lee first. and the block was necessary for wilson to get the sideline. Regardless, it was clearly a legal hit
