This is my first year playing FF. I've played Fantasy Baseball in years past, but it doesn't have nearly the level of difficulty as football. Our draft was last night, and I had the top pick in snake style 10 team league. I was really hoping for a 3-5 pick so I wouldn't get left behind when trends started happening.

QB: Aaron Rodgers, Jay Cutler

RB: Doug Martin, Frank Gore, DeAngelo Williams

WR: Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Antonio Brown, DeSean Jackson, Malcolm Floyd, Sydney Rice

TE: Jimmy Graham, Owen Daniels

K: Dan Bailey

D: Houston

I wasn't thinking when I drafted both Cruz and Nicks, but they both scored a lot of FF points last year, so maybe I'll be ok? I'm really week in the RB department. They started going right after I had made my picks and had to wait 18 picks before I was up again. We (seem) to be a 1qb, 2rb, 3wr, 1te, k, d league. Not sure what is considered "normal".

Rodgers was probably the only reasonable non-RB option to take with the top pick, but I'd have still gone RB. Effective QB's are too easy to get later down the board, imo. But for a first ever FFB draft, that looks pretty good. Like you said though, RB is gonna be your weak area.

I would see if anyone would trade you a Ryan Mathews or Forte for Brown or Nicks... something along those lines

Snake Draft 10 Team Re-Draft

QB: Matt Ryan

RB: Ray Rice

RB: Frank Gore

WR: Roddy White

WR: Brandon Marshall

Flex: Darren Sproles

TE: Tony Gonzalez

B: Ben Tate, Toby Gerhart, Jacquizz Rodgers, Rashad Jennings, Rashard Mendenhall, Santonio Holmes, Michael Crabtree

Auction Draft 10 Team Re-Draft (2QBs and 2 Flex, yes this is a weird league).

Everyone went QBs with the elite QBs going for around $70. My QBs suck because everyone was getting stupid with them. I went hard after RBs.

QB: Alex Smith

QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Ray Rice

RB: LeSean McCoy

WR: Percy Harvin

WR: Steve Johnson

WR: Nate Washington

Flex: Ahmad Bradshaw

Flex: Darren Sproles

TE: Gronk

B: Mike Williams (TB), Toby Gerhart, Jason Witten (TE's can start in flex spot), Jacquizz Rodgers, Greg Little, Russell Wilson.

There are literally zero starting QBs on the waiver wire.

I'm the other way around - I'd much rather look for effective RBs in the mid rounds and get a QB early.

It depends on the league of course, but typically you can only play one QB at a time, so RB's and WR's are more important to fill early. (This also depends on scoring, which in my league rewards RB's and WR's for TD's more than QB's.)

I got Matt Ryan in round 5 of a 10 team snake draft this year.

Ended up autodrafting my second league because of a conflict. This may be the first auto-drafted team I like, though. 10-team league, PPR/PPC:

QB: M. Stafford, DET

RB: M. Lynch, SEA

RB: F. Gore, SF

WR: C. Johnson, DET

WR: J. Nelson, GB

WR: M. Wallace, PIT

TE: F. Davis, WAS

DEF: Green Bay

K: G. Hartley, NO

BN: R. Griffin, WAS

BN: P. Hillis, KC

BN: S. Ridley, NE

BN: D. Williams, CAR

BN: G. Little, CLE

BN: L. Moore, NO

The number of open spots is why I draft more than 1 RB, obviously, but there are fewer good QBs than RBs and the RBs tend to be more volatile (i.e. Peterson was a no-brainer #1 pick last year and I've seen him in the late 2nd/3rd rounds this year, CJ is similar but to a lesser extent, etc).

I should add that this idea ends pretty quickly - Rodgers/Brees/Brady are the only QBs I'd consider taking over top end RBs.
