ABTY (davell would know better than me, but I think is a Cubs fan who works for the Royals) from PSD says that once the finances for the Wrigley are figured out and it's announced, the league will announce we are holding the all star game

In three years this organization will have added elite level talent in Baez, Soler, Almora and Rizzo along with likely the top pick in a very impressive draft and likely one to two additional B to A level spects from trades and will have shed every terrible contract on the books... Oh and will have additional revenue streams from Wrigley remodel, All Star game cash and will be gearing up for a Cubs network...

It's done. As soon as the agreement for finance is official, the league will announce that the Cubs will be hosting the game...

Hmm, that would be awesome. I hope I'm still living in the area when that takes place. Since its unlikely I'll be seeing a world series in the next 3-4 years, this is the next best event that can take place there.

Would love to see it happen. Abty, by the way, is a Royals fan, likes the Cubs secondarily, and works for a Royals website, to my knowledge. He does have scouting contacts, so it's possibly he'd run into this type of info.

2016, I think

Pretty sure it's 2014 as the Cubs wanted the game to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Wrigley and probably the renovations to the park. As of now the 2014 All Star game venue has yet to be announced.

Didn't they already give 2014 to someone else? I thought I remember hearing that somewhere because of the Cubs' desire to get that year it popped up around here when it happened?

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game

Twins are TRYING to get it. I thought they had gotten it, but it's apparently still not a done deal, so maybe this rumor has some depth to it

The Cubs and Twins have been the 2 front runners to get the 2014 game, but nothing has been announced either way. The Twins' advantage is the new ballpark and the fact that 2013 is an AL year to host the game. The Cubs' advantage is the 100th year of Wrigley only happens that year, and the AL/NL rotation has been broken recently for another historic ballpark.

I think in the end the Cubs will definitely get it unless they don't end up getting the deal with the state for some reason. The Twins can host in 2015.

The way I understand it, 2014 is supposedly close to a done deal for the Twins. 2016 is the Cubs 100 year anniversary of playing there, so it became plan B, since there is no way the renovations will be done by 2014.

Yeah, there is no way a full scale renovation is done by 2014. They may be able to get some parts of a renovation done but certainly not everything. At this point, since there is no financing set up/exact or approved plans, it might be tough to get the whole renovation of Wrigley and additions to the stadium/area done by 2016.

Last I heard, they're hoping to have the financing hammered out in time to start work immediately after this season ends. Hopefully, that happens.

Hopefully, but still that puts the 2014 ASG about 1 year and 9-10 months out. Probably not long enough to do a complete overhaul of the stadium (assuming the plan is to basically gut everything but the shell of the stadium).

Definitely not, especially considering they're going to work in the offseasons only. At least, the major work. I'm sure some small stuff can be handled during road trips and such.

The State of Illinois rebuffed the Cubs two years ago, and talks with the City of Chicago have appeared stalled, in part because of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's displeasure at Joe Ricketts' opposition to President Barack Obama's re-election. But Selig is dangling a carrot he hopes can bring the parties closer to a solution.

While Selig declined to comment on the Cubs situation, it was revealed during conversations after last week's All-Star Game in Kansas City that Major League Baseball is promising to bring the All-Star Game to Wrigley Field as soon as possible after the ballpark is improved.

MLB's hope is that city officials will see that the economic impact of that event would partially offset the cost of helping the Ricketts family modernize Wrigley, which celebrates its 100th birthday in 2014.

WHY do we keep [expletive] on things that would bring in revenue to our broke-ass city? WHY.

WHY do we keep [expletive] on things that would bring in revenue to our broke-ass city? WHY.

More on that note...

You can argue about economic-impact studies all day long and not find a method acceptable to all. But MLB has found that the bigger the market, the bigger the impact.

While local officials estimate that this year event in Kansas City carried an economic impact of about $60 million, the 2013 game at Citi Field in New York is estimated to generate $191.5 million for hotels, restaurants and other New York businesses, according to New York City Economic Development officials.

The Cubs had pushed to host the 2014 All-Star Game as a birthday party for the stadium that began as Weeghman Park, which originally was home to the Federal League's Chicago Whales. That's not going to happen, as '14 is an American League year and the event soon will be announced for Target Field in Minnesota.

Citi Field, the Mets' new home, gets the 2013 game. Washington, Miami and Cincinnati (which last had an All-Star Game in 1988) are lined up for '15, '17 and '19, respectively, but Selig is prepared to let the Cubs cut in line if taxpayers will pony up to help the team.

Theres not many examples of the public coming out ahead in financing new stadiums. The city is going to have to forego a lot of tax revenue to get this deal done.

Twins have a major announcement to make tomorrow and it's almost certain they are announcing that the 2014 ASG will take place in the twin cities.
