There was some snafu involving the prospective country not having nacho cheese.

But in a strange coincidence, he landed Kyle's old job with the Williston herald. I'm not kidding. When the paper invariably discovered that he is worse than a chimp at a typewriter, he took his talents to the local Indian casino and now the wind is in his hair.

would it really matter that much? he'd be playing in the american league for two months and then could come back to the NL. it's not like he's some awesome hitter and would hate having the bat taken out of his hands.

plus dempster seems pretty into the cubs' fan base and history, and the red sox have plenty of that going for them.

Going to a new league and possibly getting hit hard in the AL East could cost him millions as a FA.

except this was about him being traded to boston, which is one of the AL East teams that hits pitchers hard. here's the rankings in OPS of the other AL East teams:

Yankees: 1st (.802)

Toronto: 9th (.749)

Baltimore: 21st (.708)

Tampa: 24th (.692)

so basically one really good offense, one good offense, and then two lousy offenses. unless he ends up facing the yankees like 5 times in 10 starts, i fail to see how he's going to lose out much.

That's true, but you also need to figure in that he doesn't know the AL hitters and that he will be facing other AL teams with the DH. Everything I've seen makes it sound like he prefers staying in the NL. Of course, I suppose he could change his mind if the RS offered him a big contract extension.

Switching leagues typically seems to help pitchers for a while. Hitters are the ones who struggle.

@BleacherNation: I have not heard this. RT @peggykusinski

Hearing holdup of #Cubs #Dempster to #Dodgers could be his desire for a 2 year extension...

FFS Demp, just bunk with Lilly for a few months and we'll give you an extension in time for the Holidays.

did you just completely ignore the part where brett says "I have not heard this"?

Sniped. The more I think about it, with Greinke's issues, Hamels' possibly staying put, and no one else actually on the market, maybe Garza gets BEFORE Demp does? Maybe puts more teams back on Dempster and gets us more of a return? Edited by davell

The Dodgers need bats moreso than arms and it's not even close. So from that standpoint, Dempster makes perfect sense for them. Acquiring Garza takes them out of any big bat possibilities because most of the ammo they've got would be gone. I'm guessing this is just more media negotiating going on.

No, but I also didn't ignore the part where that doesn't mean it was never said.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Source: #Dodgers "very unlikely" for #Cubs' Dempster. Prefer not to trade better prospects for rentals. Garza (thru 13) more logical target.

If this were in fact the case, the talks would not have gotten to the point where we had a guy ready to start for Dempster at a moments notice and another scratched from his AAA start just in case the 1st guy didn't make it on time. Sounds like last minute jockeying for leverage.

I'm checking Twitter and F5ng MLBTR as much as anyone, but aside from injury, I can't imagine his value dropping much between now and the trade deadline, which is like a week and a half away. Jocky away boys.

It could be that the Dodgers got tired of waiting for Theo and decided to move on.

If they can get a two year extension in place with Dempster, Lee would be a phenomenal return. Hopefully, that's the current holdup.
