Latest ridiculous Kane rumor has the Hawks sending Kane/Hammer to the Habs for Subban/Plekanec and a draft pick.

Throw in Carey Price and I'd answer the phone at least.

I doubt Kane speaks French.

If I can embrace Jim Edmonds in a Cubs uniform, I think I could live with Luongo in a Hawks sweater.

There's a pretty good chance he retires before the end of that contract. It's a lot like Hossa's deal in that respect.

It really depends on what they have to give up to get him. The asking price had been high but everyone knows that both the player and the team want to part ways. If they took back Emery and rust-eze plus Frolik and maybe a draft pick that might be ok. They seem to want more than that.

If I had to guess, I'd say that no deal gets done.

Wouldn't you prefer they take back Crawford? Otherwise Chicago is back to being stuck with a ridiculous cap hit of $8.0m on goalies. I think the key is getting them to take back some cap crap like Crawford, Montador or Frolik.

Sure, but they're already taking back similar salary in Rust eze and they probably prefer a cheaper back up for Schneider. From a purely Hawks standpoint, sure, but I don't see the Nucks taking back Crawford.

As for the cap hit, if Luongo does want to play that long, there are ways of getting out of cap hits like that eg. sending Huet to Europe.

This would suck if it happened. Not sure how legit Pro Hockey Talk is but it is affiliated with NBC Sports just like Pro Football Talk I believe.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/15/report-blackhawks-dangled-bolland-in-offer-for-luongo/

That the Chicago Blackhawks reportedly have interest in Roberto Luongo is surprising enough on its own, but what if noted irritant Dave Bolland was one of the players offered up for the soon-to-be former Canucks goalie? Jason Botchford of The Province says that’s precisely what happened.

I mean yeah Bolland is a 3rd line center and love him or hate him Bobby Lu is an All-Star goalie. But the Hawks are so thin at center as it is. Plus I'm pretty sure the entire Canucks team, front office and fans hate Bolland with a passion.

The only people that think Bolland would get traded for Luongo are delusional Canucks fans who still think that they can actually get anything back in a Luongo trade. It's similar to Cub fans that think that Soriano will bring back "top prospects".

This time next year, the Hawks probably will be talking about trading Bolland but that depends on the devlopment of possible replacements (Denault and Kruger)

So this offseason has completely blown...

Anyways, the Uni Watch blog on ESPN.com rated all sports teams uniform sets from 1-122. The Bulls for some reason were 67th. The Cubs for some reason were 4th. The Bears at 2nd overall and the White Sox somewhere in the 30's are fairly reasonable. The most outrageous ranking in terms of Chicago teams? The Blackhawks at 49.

49?

49?

What?

Yes, he is saying that 40% of all sports teams have better uniforms than the Hawks. Is he just not a traditionalist? Nope that's not it....here are how the Original 6 teams fared in his rankings:

Canadiens - 1

Bruins - 5

Rangers - 11

Red Wings - 15

Maple Leafs - 23

Blackhawks - 49(?!)

This is what he has to say about the jerseys:

There are more colors in Chief Blackhawk's headdress than most teams have in their entire uniform program (all rendered in beautiful jewel-toned chain-stitching, to boot). Against the white background of the road uniform, those colors pop. But the red home uni is so loud that the chest design can't compete with it, like a pop tune that gets drowned out by a heavy metal anthem. Yet another argument for the NHL going back to wearing white at home.

Umm ok.

Yeah its only one person's opinion but there's nothing to talk about with the Hawks or the NHL except the impending lockout.

Interesting rankings. I'd have to rate the Chicago uniforms:

Bears, Bulls, Hawks, Cubs/Sox close enough to call a tie. None can be in the bottom 50%. As a whole you'd feel pretty confident putting them up against next to any city.

is bowman even trying to do anything?

I think the NHL is going to lock out....so Bowman may be taking a wait it out approach instead of adding mid level salary while not certain what kind of cap they will end up with.

Actually it should be:

Hawks and a 3 way tie between the other 3 Chicago teams (Cubs, Bulls, Bears)

The #Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Michal Rozsival on a one-year deal

He could be useful if they played this season.

Naive, no doubt, but I can't believe all sides are dumb enough to let this happen again. I still don't believe they will.

I can't believe that I believe they will let it happen, but I do believe they will miss time at the very least. Which is just so incredibly stupid.

Well, lockout it is.

I hope these guys approach this with some urgency in the next week.

Not likely, unfortunately. Public opinion is firmly on the side of the players and it will be easy for them to sit out training camp/ preseason since they don't get paid for that time period anyway. It's hard to know what the owners are thinking since they aren't allowed to talk to the media but I'd guess that the one's that are making money aren't interested in fixing the profit sharing scheme to subsidize the crappy franchises if they think that they can get the players to take a pay cut. Looking at what happened in the NFL and NBA the owners eventually got the players to agree to less money but it took weeks/ months rather than days.

Yeah I really just don't get the owners' position. The players caved big time in the last lockout. The owners got their cap. Revenue has gone through the roof in the last few years, and now the owners come back and claim the players are taking too much. When it's them, the owners, giving out dumb-assed contracts to guys like Matt Carle and Evander Kane.

What the owners need is a slightly lower cap on both ends. MArginal players are getting $3 million per of a regualr basis. That suggests that the current system needs a lower cap floor so that the cheap teams don't have to artificially overpay to meet it.

One thing the owners I believe are underestimating, is that the players probably have more money to wait out the lockout and are better organized/ informed than last time. I think the solution is going to have to be some sort of luxury tax like they have in baseball that allows the big spenders to spend while subsidizing the smaller markets/ poorly run teams.

hey guys remember when hockey existed

Seriously, I saw a link on the right side of ESPN's front page saying that the NHL canceled their preseason schedule. I felt a little bad for not realizing the preseason would've already started.
