Would you rather part with Hossa or Sharp? On ability alone, Sharp goes. But looking at the contracts, Hossa would go.

because of length? sharp's cap hit is higher, but also has more value in a trade than hossa b/c of the length.

Yes because of the length.

Hossa was great last year but you can't go throwing around "best player" and "Hossa" that confidently when Toews was a contender for the Hart trophy before his concussion.

And?

I like this argument. Who is the best forward on the Hawks, Hossa or Toews? The fact that this could even be debated demonstrates seanimal's point. Frankly, the Hawks don't have any bad contracts among the core. They have some annoying overpays, but terrible overpays, for guys like Frolik, Olesz, and Hjalmarsson. And possibly Crawford.

I don't get it. If there is a realistic debate between Hossa and Toews then saying Hossa is without a doubt the best player on the Hawks is silly. I'm fine with it being up for debate.

what a horrible argument. toews played 22 fewer games, 27% of the season, than hossa.

So the best player on a team is the best player that manages to stay healthy for more than 70% of the season?

Luol Deng was the best player on the Bulls last year right?

There's no question whatsoever that Toews is the most valuable Hawk. After that Hossa is second by a bit.

Shouldn't even be comparing them. The comparison should be between Hossa and Sharp or Kane, if we assume as part of this parlor game that we sign Parise and Suter and therefore need to get rid of one of the big contracts. No one mentions that the guy that goes could be Seabrook or even Keith.

I shouldn't put much stock in this, but rumors this morning say the Hawks are out on Suter and Detroit will likely get him, but another says Suter wants to go where Parise goes.

Thinking goes if Hawks lose out on Parise they look to Doan or Nash. What a letdown that would be, especially since getting Nash would mean a huge K and parting with picks/prospects.

I don't want both of them going to Detroit, obviously, but both going to MN would be trouble in the long run too since they'll be in our division when realignment is finally done.

Suter going to Detroit doesn't bother me, considering the guy he's replacing. Parise going there too means that they will be good. They usually are anyway so in a weird way I'd rather they go to scum than Minn.

I don't see them going after Nash unless the asking price comes down.

As much as Doan is no Parise, he should at least appease the HIT SOMEBODY! SHOOT! crowd with the added sandpaper, grit, toughness or whatever you want to call it. He also is a short term bridge to the up and coming talent like Saad.

Minn newspaper is reporting Suter to MN officially now. That's probably bad news for teams in Parise race. Detroit and Pitt have both said they are out of Parise race. More bad news. Edited by UMFan83

LeBrun reporting Parise agrees with Minnesota as well.

Dammit why did I have to get my hopes up. I was perfectly ok that the Hawks weren't in the hunt for either.

Not much you can do there -- they both went for a ton of money to the Wild. Hawks made a good run. But... the Wild. Weird.

If Bowman trades the farm for Nash my head will explode.

That won't happen. The Hawks score plenty already. They really don't need scoring as much as defense/goaltending. With the contracts that are flying around out there for defense, I'd put a qualifying offer out on Shea Weber.

I don't believe they can do that since they sent their 3rd round pick next year for Oduya. If they made a qualifying offer big enough that the Preds couldn't/ wouldn't match, the Hawks would lose their 1st and 3rd picks as comp. They have to be your own picks too, not ones that they'd get for say Frolik.

That sure ties up a lot of cap space for the Wild. At least now we'll see how the rest of the FA s shke out.

I am glad they both signed with MN as opposed to any other team in the hunt, except Det of course. But I think the Wings are going to end up doing something desperate to add a top pairing D-man, or worse someone they think is a top pairing guy who really isn't.

I'd bet the Wings overpay Carle. I like him, but he's got the market by the balls right now.

Saw a mention on Twitter that the Hawks are in on Alex Semin. No thanks a million times over.

you clearly missed the point about the games played thing, but what kind of deranged and out-of-control idiocy is required to even suggest that luol deng was the best player on the bulls? booz and jo were the best players on the bulls by a mile, and i think you could make the case for either one.

but anyway, sorry for not paying my respects to the church of jonathan toews. i always forget to preface my statements with "jonathan toews is single most valuable player over time of all current chicago blackhawks, but,"

last year hossa directly contributed to the blackhawks winning their hockey games more than any other player on the roster. therefore, he was the best player on the team.

stan bowman is start the lip service already on how the rest of this offseason will shape up. looks like another year of being a low seed and no real threat to the cup.
