Looking harder at Cardenas... meh. I think he can probably hit for a .680 OPS at the big leagues, something like 320 OBP/360 SLG. But his defense is supposed to be kinda fringey.

There may be nothing in baseball more fungible than borderline middle infielders.

Yeah, his bat appears to be solid in the contact department, but that's about it. And the fact that they moved him to the outfield last year makes me suspect his defense is, as you said, fringey which means his offensive value as a contact hitter is pretty useless unless he's got Billy Hamilton speed (he doesn't) or Jack Cust patience (he doesn't).

It wasn't meant to be a serious analysis. Sandberg >>>> Barney is kind of implied.

you say that now, but when barney wins the mvp this year you'll be all like "SEE GUYS I ACTUALLY PREDICTED THIS BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED"

Not going to happen, because Sappelt will split the Chicago voters.

Is Jim Frey available to teach Barney to hit for power? If he hit 17 triples and 19 HRs I might rethink my "Darwin Barney kinda sucks" position.
