Well hell, I told the wife I quit and she promised she'd be sure I had the time to stay in, so I guess I'm not gonna leave.

Don

Nice job! Has she stated what she wants in return yet?

Nope, but if anyone wants Braun, he's for sale! :)

Mailed off a check for me and Truffle today. Tried dropping players today, but am getting errors. Went into the commish panel and under Transaction policies, set it to allow owners to do adds and drops. Didn't help, but figured I would leave it there for the time being.

The error I'm receiving says Transaction Failed: "Missing Payload For Post", whatever that means.

Can one of you guys add GR? He said he wanted to join.

Does anyone know GR's name? I dug up his email.

I see this forum so I assume you tracked me down. Thanks.

What do you need from me?

Look at your PM's. All I really need from the PM's I sent now is your first and last name and the email address if it is different than the one I found through NSBB's admin panel.

I'll send you a synopsis of what you will need to do and how to go about doing it soon. I'll wait until you are registered into the Roadkill league before sending you the PM. You will need to be able to visualize the league page in order to follow some of the instructions. For example, they didn't make it real easy to find last year's point values for players, and they will be needed in order to get your team below the 2000 point maximum cap.

Don't do anything with the team until you receive my PM. And for god sakes, do not accept any trades from these yahoos until I have had a chance to explain how the league works. There are vultures among us. :D

example, don't believe Tim when he states its a good idea to trade 1st round draft picks.

GR is added, league message sent and synopsis of how to pare down rosters has been sent to GR. GR does not have access to Roadkill during the day (work), so he will finish the registration tonight.

So is the trade deadline past since rosters had to be set today?

No, and I did just PM you about that.

The problem is that there aren't many teams you can trade with now because their rosters are pared down. Technically, the other managers who have not pared down their rosters shouldn't be able to make trades now that it is after the deadline. You, however, should be able to do so since you technically should have been put in place as manager weeks ago.

Ultimately, Tim is the only one who can confirm when you need to have your roster pared down, but don't get into a big hurry getting legal, considering the circumstances. That's my take on it, anyway.

Crap. So I can't trade for any of the guys that people were offering and ultimately dumped for nothing? This is like a rebuilding project that can't start until after the next season ends.

I'll wade thru the rules and try to pare down my roster but it will probably take a few days.

Not sure if it's feasible or fair but I wonder if we could extend the deadline a few days if GR finds potential trade partners. Otherwise, it seems like he gets a rather raw deal for not being added sooner.

The only way I see something like that being fair is if there is someone in the free agent pool (recently dropped)/or on a team that hasn't been pared down yet that he wants and he can then work a deal with the former manager of that player and pick the player up that way.

But, not sure how popular that idea would be. I kind of like it personally. Robert did leave that team in a bit of a mess. Josh Hamilton is the only keeper on that roster that has points counting against him that I would have any interest in keeping for next year.

The other problem with this idea is if one of the other managers drops and another owner is brought in, are we going to offer this same deal to them?

For example, if GR wanted the recently dropped Aaron Harang (purposeful bad example) and Harang was recently dropped by Adam's team, Adam and GR could then work out a trade that would allow GR to then add that player to his roster.

Thoughts?

ETA: The question might become whether or not an established owner might be able to pick up one of the players he dropped if said owner traded one of the players on their current roster in the deal, thereby giving the team room within the cap once again.

I suppose if this type of maneuver would meet everyone's approval, it could be ruled on case by case. I don't have a problem with any of this, personally.

Posted

Yeah, I was thinking of something like that. It doesn't seem too crazy a plan and the onus would be on GR to find a free agent he likes and hammer out a trade.

How many other managers do we need to fill in? Can we fill the teams in quickly and give a window through this weekend for new managers? That said, I felt GR deserved an exception because he had already accepted an invite well before the 2/14 deadline.

I sent out an email this morning through the league site. Probably a few people who don't have email access all day to know that they need to check in yet.

Tim said at least one other manager was ready and willing to take over a team. I'm sure Juan is in. DeShawn has checked in. Karen is probably good to go, though I haven't noticed if she has posted on NSBB in awhile. I'll text her after I hit send on this post. I'll reach out to Juan, also. Chuck is the one that concerns me the most, and Tim is checking in on him.

I'd be happy with what was proposed. I expected I'd have a time to work on the roster since I offered to take over a team about a month ago. So that would be helpful.

Full disclosure though, this isn't something I'm going to be able to complete in a couple of days. I haven't even seen my full roster, let alone what they did last year, nor who the FAs are. So I need to do all that, figure out the rules and scoring, and then negotiate deals. If the group isn't willing to give me at least 10 days or so to do that, that's ok, its up to the commish/group. But if not, its not worth discussing bc I can't reasonably do it much quicker, given that I can't access the site from ~7am-7pm during the week.

I already mentioned in a PM to you and somewhere here that you are welcome to take your time. Our concern isn't the deadlines so much as having 16 willing and able participants. Once you have that, then deadlines can be more defined.

Tim is the only one who can dictate how much time you should have, but I don't see any reason for a rush at this point. We may still be filling other vacancies in the next week or two. Karen just responded to my text. She's in. She's been traveling.

10 days should be fine. i don't think anyone is talking about starting the draft before the first of march.

as for chuck, i think it's pretty funny that he has such "prospects" as billy rowell and kim jin-yeong (apparently he's a cub prospect???)

Were there any rule changes that we were thinking about discussing/changing for this year?

We should start discussing them if so. I don't recall anything off hand, but figured I would throw it out for discussion.

The only discussion that I remember was something about the finals.

1) totally fair to extend GR/MR

2) chuck texted that he'll set his roster tonight

If you guys end up short a manager, I can probably swing it this year now that I'm not trying to support a family on a solo income. I didn't even work 80 hours this week!
