Greg Halman Killed

By Tim Dierkes [November 21 at 7:17am CST]

Mariners outfielder Greg Halman was killed early this morning, Dutch police told the Associated Press. Halman was stabbed to death, and his brother has been arrested as a suspect. Halman, 24, was a native of the Netherlands

I'm not too familiar with Halman, but he was BAs #57 prospect pre 2009. He has a few short stints with the big league club in '10 and '11.

Holy [expletive]. Halman had a lot of power/speed potential but was never really considered a safe bet to live up to it I don't think. His contact and walk rates were simply too weak for him to be a real threat in the majors.

According to Dutch sources, the stabbing incident happened at 05h30 this morning in a house in Rotterdam.

Dude was 24yrs old - what a waste.

Now he isn't a threat to anything or anyone. A shame

Crazy old bump, but ESPN just put out an incredibly long and detailed write-up about the 17 days leading up to the stabbing of Greg Halman explaining a lot of what his brother, Jason Halman was doing and going through before he killed his own brother. Fascinating and tragic read...

I'd read about Jason's release in the Dutch press a couple of days ago.

That ESPN piece is very good.
