when is paterno going to end up behind bars where he belongs?

Normally I'm opposed to capital punishment but in the case of people like joe paterno I'm willing to make an exception.

What Paterno has done over the entire course of this thing has been pretty awful, I grant you that. However, it seems like a lot of people (not necessarily talking about NSBB) are more mad at Paterno than Sandusky. Yes, Paterno was an awful, horrible piece of crap for not doing anything and allowing it to continue, but Sandusky was the guy actually doing it.

But then you'd ruin his weekend.

Fortunately he's going to die soon, and the world will be rid of this monster.

....because Sandusky stands to get what he deserves, while Paterno is more in line to get off without real punishment.

That irks people. I know it irks me.

Being fired and having his coaching legacy ruined is a real punishment.

And I'd you're irked by that you'd better be irked that a multitude of people (investigators, penn state janitors, mike mcqueary, district attorneys, former penn state president, high school wrestling coach) are not also going to prison.

Paterno is the major face of all of this, fair or not it's pretty clear why he is the one who gets the majority of ire drawn his way. I'm going to guess that a lot those other people will have, and already have had their lives ruined from this, it just doesn't matter as much to the public as they aren't public figures.

that was necessary fallout from either allowing a kiddie porn ring to exist or being part of it himself, i'm not sure which yet.

there was no real punishment for him.

the penn state janitors, are you serious?

How cute, the guy who doesn't know what he's talking about doesn't know that a janitor witnessed Sandusky with a boy in the shower sometime around 1999 and told other janitors about it.

Posted

no, it's not that, it's just that i'm just sure you'd sacrifice a million janitors if it meant joe paterno could coach again, and penn state could recruit again.

let's get those janitors in here! joe ain't getting any younger, he's got to tell a bunch of kids they can't transfer because he knows what's best for them, and helping him win games and cement his legacy is what's best for them, obviously.

also, covering up kiddie rape is best for kids too

So to be clear, it is your position that most of the people who knew or had a good sense about what Sandusky was doing should not be punished? That only the college football coach Sulley has heard of should be punished?
Posted

whatever is in the best interest of the program i guess. if that includes throwing the conspiracy of janitors on the pyre and forcing mcqueary to commit sepoku, then so be it.

just admit that the past and future of penn state football is more important than a bunch of kids.

It's like thinking Nixon was unfairly getting all the pressure just because he didn't actually break into the [expletive] Watergate Hotel.

Nixon was plenty guilty. As is Paterno. I never once said anything even remotely close to "unfair". I was just saying that Sandusky was the guy actually doing it, yet it seems a lot of people are far more upset with Paterno.

People talk more about the Paterno situation because it's more complicated and you have varying opinions about him in all of this. Everyone hates Sandusky.

I don't care about that. I don't care if they lose every game next year.

A janitor (now retired and incapable of testimony due to dementia) witnessed sexual conduct between Sandusky and a young boy, told a co-worker about it, and all the co-worker did was to give the eyewitness the number of someone to contact if he so chose. I mean, even Paterno did better than that. If we are going to get indignant and wish bad things on everyone who could have done more, let's be morally consistent and go after everyone, from the janitor to the school president.

Your posts are riddled with as much nonsense as the ones you usually make during bears/hawks/illini losses, so I'm going to assume that you're either drunk or despondent about Illinois women's volleyball.

Outstanding strawman.

haha, i can see paterno and the janitors sitting in the courtroom with oxygen and [expletive] like the mob bosses in Casino.

i know you feel really bad for him that he lost his reputation and his legacy will forever be linked to child rape, but there are a lot of people that will tell you that paterno knew every minute detail of every single person affiliated with that program, they called him "The Rat" behind his back for his penchant for sticking his nose in everyone's business. couple that with him being the most powerful man in pennsylvania for the last million years and you get jail time, even if you have to force an incontinent old man, and truffle's personal hero, to die in jail.

my relationship with women's college volleyball is strictly a superficial one, i assure you.

It doesn't bother me that people want Paterno punished for turning a blind eye to the situation.

It's really weird, though, how much glee people like Sulley are getting from the situation. I had no idea that (apparently) every other fan base in the country has been waiting 40 years to see Paterno go down.

yeah, because the fact that he was a child rapist enabler on a scale that could be gigantic, has nothing to do with the relief and happiness that he had to step down.

before, he was just an incontinent old man, not really a person of interest one way or another except on the saturdays when his team played mine. but now, i find it only a partial victory that he had to surrender the legacy and success that he valued above anything else, to the point where he would not only fail to report serious criminal activities, but actively cover them up.

he needs to pay with blood and bone, sacrificed to some savage god of child vindication. feed him to a crocodile while matt millen has to watch, chained to a radiator.

Do you even read any of the testimonies or reports?

He reported what he heard to Curley and Schultz. Granted, he didn't report it to President Bush, per his responsibilities as the Most Powerful Man in Pennsylvania, but saying he "failed to report" is incorrect and you know it. I also hope anyone planning on "actively covering up" anything in the future take notes from Paterno's mistakes: don't tell your superiors about what you plan on covering up, because that will make it harder to cover it up. Got it.
