Forgive my defensiveness.....the only coach I've ever known on the team I've been a fan of for 25 years just got fired, destroying his legacy along the way. I'm not in the mood for people high-fiving over this

you'll probably find your nsbb experience will be enhanced by not reading goony's posts any more.

He'd probably disagree (see what I did there?)

Funny. A coach who enabled a predatory child rapist for a decade just got fired. Forgive me if I'm not in the mood for defensiveness about it.

I don't really care what you're in the mood for, Kyle.

man, how in the world has sandusky not committed suicide yet?

I'd place even money on him doing so before he sees the inside of a prison cell. He's not a big celebrity or super rich so he won't get special treatment.. he'll either go into general population (where who knows what will happen) or go into solitary because his safety would be in danger and he'd lose his mind. Either way, his life is over.

He'll take the cowards way out and end it, I'm sure. Either that or get horribly murdered in prison.

If you think I'm supporting Paterno here you're not reading very carefully

People here tend not to do that. It's an annoying habit.

I get so [expletive] tired of this reading comprehension [expletive]. It's an internet message board, there's at least as good of odds that the author's post is less clear than they believe it to be as there is some failure of the audience to be able to read.

That's one possibility.

Or it could be that some people are either dense, or just cherry-pick the things they want to argue about. Or both.

Or you may find your college football watching experience enhanced by not supporting a child rape enabler

I wouldn't know, since last time I watched a college football game, I didn't know the coach was a child rape enabler.

But it's cute how you keep trying to imply I support the people who enabled it. Maybe if you repeat it enough times it'll stick

k

That is fair and reasonable. I do feel bad for supporters of the program who thought Joe was better than this. I was responding to truffle who has been much less rationale than you about this subject. I used to admire psu and the program. It sucks and aside from all the real victims of sexual assault there are people whose lives have been turned upside down.

My initial human reaction is to feel bad for Paterno because every picture of him makes him look like a sad, pathetic, lonely old man then I realize that he screwed up big time and know this is what needs to happen.

Justice

Not even close. A fired football coach doesn't fix what happened to those kids. If anything, it distracts from Sandusky.

I agree with the firing, but justice? Give me a [expletive] break

How does it distract from Sandusky? The guy is a kid raper; he's already the ultimate villain and he's going to pay the price for it. It's not like his case is going to fall by the wayside because of this firing.

Whose face is on ESPN right now?

The guy who was going to get to retire before he was rightly fired. Sandusky has been caught and isn't going anywhere. Paterno was getting all the attention because nothing had happened to him.

not to mention a lot of people have never even heard of sandusky.

This is pretty much how I feel. I'm not a Penn State fan, and I'm really only a casual college FB fan, but until this scandal broke I had tremendous respect for Joe Paterno as a coach and as a man. But yes, this needed to happen.

Frankly, I'm shocked there hasn't been more talk about cancelling games because of this, because, honestly, how can you play a game on campus on Saturday with all of this going on?

Although that would be punishing the kids who had absolutely nothing to do with any of this and just want to play football, so I'm conflicted.

like half the team has been on twitter protesting the firing. saturday is going to be hilarious, they'll lose by 50.

I knew better than to discuss this with anyone on Facebook, because it'd just get me annoyed.

I was just told that "You can't read the grand jury report and believe that Paterno knew that Sandusky did these things to children."

When I asked for clarification, he said "The report just says that he relayed what he was told by McQuery, not that he believed him."

Disgusting apologists.

And of course there was the guy on another message board who argued that the reason people were upset at Paterno was because they didn't want to be upset at Sandusky because they were scared of criticizing someone for having sex with boys because America has been brainwashed by the Gay Army.

Jesus espn, you are pathetic

our local ESPN radio guys totally crucify the ESPN talking heads for nights like this, where none of them want to express their opinions. Everyone on ESPN sits on the fence until public opinion has been established

i had to laugh at all the articles (on sports sites and news sites the last few days) where the template was like this:

Joe Paterno has been a model coach, role model and citizen for 60 years at Penn State. He's done countless good deeds for the school and for the young men he coaches. And of course, he has won more games than any Division 1 coach in college football history.

But he needs to step down. Immediately.

oh wow, you're being so shocking and controversial for saying the same thing that every journalist on every website is saying!

Some Penn State students are embarrassing themselves right now. They're not representing their school very well at all right now.
