This is pretty awesome and probably should've gotten more attention when it was posted. Maybe now that we've got more people in here, someone who missed it will get a look.

I really hope we end up doing some of the stuff talked about in there. Especially Maddon's stuff.

I forget what I was listening to/watching, where someone asked if they were required to have information in "paper" form in the dugouts, or if they could use technology. The response from whoever was being interviewed (sorry, I don't have more details) was that they'd never seen a laptop or ipad in the dugout during the game. And it's made me wonder why we don't see that really in any of the major sports. You'd think that using an ipad would be a great tool for drawing up a play to show players during an NBA timeout, or a good way to store an NFL playbook.

I've seen articles about football teams moving to iPads for playbooks. But yeah, especially for baseball, you'd think that would be a great asset for coaches.

I heard it too. They're not allowed in dugouts, however.

I'm guessing it's some sort of paranoia about cheating.

Cheating? How would one cheat with a IPAD?

I've heard far more irrational things from "baseball people."

THEY'RE STEALING SIGNS WITH THOSE DAMN NEWFANGLED THINGS!

Putting my conspiracy theory hat on for a second, you could have someone elsewhere in a stadium stealing signs and relaying them via wireless to an ipad/laptop.

I think it would be extremely beneficial for NFL coaches. You have much more control and security over the information if you put the playbook on iPads. You could better ensure players aren't making copies of the playbook and leaking them to competitors after they've been released. It should also be fairly easy to create an app that animates the X's and O's to simulate the progression of the play, and would be a great teaching tool for visual learners. For playcallers you can pull up the opponent's tendencies in real time on any given down and distance, replace the ubiquitous laminated play card.

I will say that this thing reads like an Apple propaganda piece.
